As the name implies, Mission Creek is the centerpiece of this park with the ability to walk along its banks from near the mouth up into Gallagher's Canyon and beyond if one is daring. And while the possibility of running into bears and other wildlife is slim nearer to the lake, once you trek upstream from the main parking lot on Springfield Rd., be very bear aware as it is not uncommon to run into these omnivores. And while it is generally a non-issue, as Spring comes into full force it is possible to meet a mama bear and cubs; stay clear as much as possible.
Back to the park. Features other than the Creek include:
A pleasant amble, anytime of the year.
Note: my sons like to river surf during Spring runoff. Not only is this dangerous and can lead to death it is also illegal. But try telling that to young men who have not fully developed their prefrontal...
ย ย ย Read moreWe have been riding our bikes and walking our dog here for the past ten years. Itโs a wonderful place in all seasons. Watching the Creek transform itself as the year passes by is a treat as are the Kokanee when spawning time arrives. Assuming that you canโt or donโt have the time to travel the entire length of the park at one time, I recommend that you start your exploration at different locations over time so that you can experience the varying landscapes, views, and flora along the parkโs entirety. My one annoyance with the Park (and it is not the fault of the park) are the many ignorant and inconsiderate cyclists who ride there. Most are fine but there are some who ride far too fast around the walkers, joggers, and dog walkers and most cyclists either do not use a polite warning bell to signal their approach or do not even have a bell. Do they not realize that the sound from their tires is not enough and especially when the creek is flowing quickly, they cannot be heard until they are upon us or past us.? It is startling, unsafe, impolite, and all too frequent. Sounding a little bell from a few meters back will help...
ย ย ย Read moreThis is an awesome park! One of the prides of Kelowna. They have an amazing playground that has been re-done in the last five years. There is a beautiful path, called the Greenway, that is 17 km long and stretches through a large section of town. Mission Creek Park is a great place to get onto the Greenway. This is also a wonderful place to watch the salmon spawn. I have been on many field trips with my children to Mission Creek Park, they have some really excellent guides that are knowledgable and make it really fun for the kids. There is a little Pond at the top of the path that is full of life. Lots of fish and insects and turtles!
Mission Creek Park is known for having bears at certain times of the year. Be sure to heed any warning signs that are posted.
This is a wonderful place to host a birthday party, they have a nice covered area with a beautiful section of...
