Read moreAlthough we already have our favourite place in downtown we still love to give chances to new Indian restaurants. We saw that Mavara was newly opened and had good reviews so definitely wanted to give a try. Because my mom and partner were fasting we asked them kindly to bring the food when it’s the iftar time and they did (that’s why I gave 2 stars instead of 1).
When we received the food we were just shocked by the quantity of the food. You can compare it from the photo. They were ridiculously small portions and definitely not worth for the price, sorry!
We ordered Lamb Tikka Masala, Lamb Curry, Butter Chicken, Lamb Biryani, Green Salad and Raita. Because of the shock that I had I couldn’t take the photo of the green salad but it’s not hard to use your imagination. Think about, 4-5 thin slices of red onion, same amount of tomatoes, cucumbers, they were laying together and top had a slice of lemon… We immediately returned it back since it is not even close to a salad. While I found the butter chicken sauce tasty the some chicken pieces’ tastes were unpleasant (they were either undercooked or had skin on it, couldn’t understand it perfectly since I was already chewing). The lamb tikka masala; based on our previous experiences when you touch the lamb with your fork/spoon it splits right away, unfortunately we had to chew the lamb for a while, it was very tough. The lamb biryani had the same lamb issue. Unfortunately the worst one was my mom’s order! Lamb curry, it was extremely salty, like you put your tongue in a salt jar🫤 When we mentioned about our complaints to the server, they decided to wave the Raita from our bill which we ordered extra because the server didn’t mention that biryani already comes with raita while taking our order. It doesn’t mention on the menu either. We should have left when we saw the ridiculous portions but because my mom and partner were fasting all day unfortunately we had to stay and eat some food. Lastly one of the washroom didn’t have soap and the other one had sanitizer instead of soap! I wish that place could do better so we could go back again but unfortunately the experience...
Read moreExpected more from this place but unfortunately had an average experience. This restaurant is located near the airport and we went all the way to this place from Downtown as they had halwa puri mentioned on their menu as Sunday Special. When ordered, staff says it was until 2pm which is no where mentioned on the menu and was disappointing. Then we ordered Dinner Thali which comes with 3 items. They customized all the 3 for us on our request which was great. So we went for dal makhni, paneer butter masala and butter chicken. All the 3 were good but dal makhni and butter paneer lacked some seasoning. Butter Chicken on the other hand was great. We also ordered separate Paneer Naan which was nicely done but this too lacked some seasoning and salt too. We also had Tandoori Chicken on the staff's recommendation but it was a disappointment. It was wet from the inside, not thoroughly cooked as a Tandoori should be. It also had skin on it and I could not stomach it so returned it. It also lacked seasoning. Chef should consider adding more salt and seasoning to the dishes. The bill still showed the Tandoori amount as they forgot to remove it. Prices are great compared to other restaurants. Ambience is good, spacious. Staff is friendly too. Our experience wasn't as good but will give this place...
