Please make sure to double check your order and the price before you pay!!
I posted this on April 1, but Lavazio Café (Clearwater) has two google profiles so I am sharing my experience here also. April 1 2020 was my first visit to Lavazio Cafe. When I approached the counter to order I saw on the display menu that they had a Panini/sandwich +soup combo but it was for a 12 inch panini. When the hostess arrived behind the counter I specifically asked "do you do a 6 inch sandwich combo?" to which she replied "a 6 inch sandwich combo? Sure, what kind?"
I should have realized that the hostess didn't specifically say yes or no.
I then ordered a tuna panini and asked what kind of soups there were, since the combo included a soup. She said there was only minestrone so that's what I ordered, a long with an ice tea and a slice of cake for dessert. My order was processed at 11:42 and approximately $21 before tip. She did not offer me a receipt, there was no order screen for the customer to see so they can confirm their order. She had me pay and told me to take a seat.
While I was eating I realized while looking up at the menu that my meal total didn't add up. The 12" combo was $12.99 + $2 pop + $5.99 dessert = $20.98 before tax. I thought 'maybe they just mischarged me' and decided to ask them about the difference before I left.
It was a different person when I approached the counter this time, so I asked her how much the 6" combo was. She punched it into the register and said $12.99. I then asked her to double check, because that was the price for a 12". She then called the previous hostess over so I could talk to them.
The og hostess said there was no such thing as a 6" sandwich combo. I replied with "but I specifically asked you if there was a 6" combo when I was ordering and you said sure."
I was so exasperated when she replied "you decided on getting a 6" tuna panini and then asked what kinds of soups there were" to which I said "because a soup is included with the combo, I wanted to know what soups I could get". The hostesses then printed off my receipts to show me how they charged me, basically dismissing me.
That was the first and last time I will be coming to Lavazio Cafe on 97 Street.
Thoughts on food- Tuna panini was a bit dry but overall not bad. Vegetables were very fresh. I appreciate that the onions didn't overpower the other flavours. Minestrone soup was watered down. Vanilla fruit cake with Pistachio was really fluffy and not...
Read moreMy son and I spend time on our weekends visiting the top reviewed coffee shops in Edmonton and the area. We happened on Lavazio Cafe several years ago, and we were super impressed. The coffees, food, and desserts here have become our gold standard for coffee shops, and frankly, nothing in the city even comes close.
This is exactly what a great neighborhood coffee shop should be. Excellent coffee, carefully curated food and desserts, and stylish but cozy, unpretentious decor. You can tell why it's a local favorite!
Unlike many coffee shops we go to, the consistency of coffee here is spot on. A great coffee machine is useless if staff aren't trained properly to use it! It is obvious the friendly owner of Lavazio, who has been there most days we are, cares about his customers and business, and has trained his staff well!
We believe you can safely ignore the few bad reviews here and go see for yourself. We agree with the overwhelmingly positive reviews.... it is the best coffee shop in Edmonton!
Living in St Albert, we now make a weekend circuit to support locally owned shops in Lavazio's area... first stop: H&W Produce (great prices), Elsafadi Mediterranean Supermarket (authentic food and super nice owner/manager), Mediterranean Pita Bakery (yummy, and so kind and helpful) or Sunbake, and our final stop is always Lavazio cafe!! Yes, it's...
Read moreUnique interior and authentic Italian feel. The chai latte I got was good and a bit sweet for my liking but I think it was the oat milk that added to the sweetness (got to avoid the lactose in cow's dairy). Dined in - Seating was interesting with 2 4 seater tables spaced next to a large strip of side by side tables in the middle (I sat at), a small bar style section facing the window with elevated seats, ok for students with laptops but crowded, Probably because it was pretty busy around 3pm, but it died down by the time we were leaving, when I took the pictures. Also had another area with high bar style seats and booth style seating. Not sure if I'd go here to study during peak hours, because there isn't really enough separation and it's pretty loud - It would have to be quiet during slow hrs. Lots of tasty food, icecream and an assortment of cafe drinks, so plenty to choose from. Didn't notice any gluten free options, but yea they do have dairy alternatives. Plenty of parking, not an issue and the cashier seemed nice enough 👍 and delivered drinks to our table. I grew up going to an Italian cafe and playing foosball...so overall it felt authentic and italian 🇮🇹 I would probably go again just to try the food and see if it's good. The person I went with got a quesadilla which she...
