Tried out Brunch Glory at the recommendation of a friend and since we were having brunch on the Northside.
I think the Northside location might have been a Ricky's once upon a time but it's located up in Namao area and the establishment itself is kind of small. It has a bit of a old school diner vibe but with a generic menu. I, personally, found the menu amusing as it had old school classics like liver and onions and veal cutlets but also some update items like avocado toast and crab cake benny's.
We went on a Sunday around 11am and it was fairly busy and consistent during our entire stay. Services was mediocre and a bit slow for me but it was busy so there is a part of me that understands as well. It took our server a while to take our order and get our drinks but the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. We ordered a benny and a skillet and both were decent. I'm not sure my skillet was the greatest thing I have ever had but it also wasn't the worse. I really appreciated that it was a decent portion size and not super greasy.
My friend was a fan of Brunch Glory but I unfortunately wasn't really. I should really also preface that by saying Brunch Glory is a lot like your run of the mill all day breakfast places (think Ricky's, Tutti Frutti, Sunset Grill, etc) and works well for people who like those sorts of places (I, personally, am not). Nothing too fancy, just simple meals. I should also note that I found Brunch Glory expensive ($20 for a Skillet and $21 for the benny) for a typical breakfast diner and didn't quite feel the price reflected the quality of the food. I think this was actually more expensive than other all day breakfast places.
I guess if mom and dad are visiting or maybe your grandparents, and you know they aren't fans of modernized breakfast places then this would probably be a good bet. I am sure my mom would have enjoyed this place but it wasn't...
Read moreWe saw Brunch & Glory in the same shopping complex as our kids dentist office, We LOVE breakfast fare so we put this place on our bucket list of places to try. Well this morning that occasion has come uppance! I put on my snaziest wifey jean shorts, hoodie and sunglasses while hubby rolled up in his blue collar work gear. I ordered the Bruch Glory Breakfast while hubbs got the spicy breakfast poutine. "O-M-G DROOOLS!!". I wish I ordered what my husband got, mine was typical breakfast fare, not a bad thing. But my husband's breakfast was **ing DELICIOUS!!
Only slight setbacks? My sausage came out looking rather pale, best way I can describe it. Like you know how typical breakfast sausage arrives a bussin deep golden hue that aches to be dipped in ketchup? Mine arrive pale, like boiled pale. I gave them all to hubby. My Bacon was great. Easy over eggs great. Shredded hash nice portion, something I noticed other places cheap out on. For beverages, I requested water, my hubbs requested coffee. I took a sip of my husband's coffee to see if I made a mistake in not ordering one for myself, it was bitter tasting. Lastly the single orange slice on my plate was visibly dehydrated, so I left it uneaten. Unsure what the limp lettuce leaf was doing under the orange as presentation as well. It could have gone without as observation.
On the plus our waitress was super friendly! Service prompt! Food came out hot and fast! She brought me the BEST damn ice cold glass of water in Edmonton, I LOVE cold water!!
The place is a little dark inside as ambience for a breakfast place, letting some natural light in would make the place seem more welcoming.
Would definitely come back with our 3 kids for a future visit so I can order a wifey spicy breakfast poutine. Hubby said he would order it again as well.
Didn't use the loo on this visit so I cannot comment on...
Read moreWe tried this brand new restaurant on the first weekend it opened, which can always be risky. But our overall experience wasn't terrible, but it wasn't fantastic either. I'm actually quite torn on how to review this restaurant, that's why I gave it 3 stars.
We went on a Sunday morning around 10:30am and thought it was going to be way busier than it was. The restaurant is a decent size (it was an old Ricky's), and it was about 1/3 full when we got there. We got seated right away, but there seemed to be some confusion with who our server was supposed to be. Once that got sorted out (took 10-15 mins for a server to finally come and take our orders), our server was very friendly and apologetic.
I ordered a black coffee, the Meat Lovers Skillet and my spouse ordered the Brunch Glory Special. The coffee is okay. Not outstanding, but not horrible either. Your typical, budget blend coffee.
Our meals came out hot and again, just okay. Nothing looked overly special or great. That being said, my husband liked his bacon and eggs and my meat skillet was alright. There is lots of meat and hashbrowns in the meal, but the beef was very tough and chewy. I asked for a side of hollandaise to give it a little something else, but the hollandaise tasted like turmeric or curry. The Chef (Owner) came by and asked how we liked everything and I mentioned that the hollandaise was a "unique" flavor. He said they make it a little different with lemon and that people like it. I've had traditional hollandaise with lemon and this wasn't it.
Our meals and service were just okay. Would we try it again? Probably. But it wouldn't be our first choice. It's too bad because we really do need some more locally owned restaurants on the north side. There's a lot of potential and hopefully they step...
