Jack Astor's Bar & Grill Laval — Restaurant in Laval (administrative region)

Dined on May 21, 2023 at the Jack Astors in Laval, Qc. Very mediocre service - which is unusual for Jack Astors.

The first waitress assigned to our table appeared to be working her first shift - she told us she was “new”. she repeatedly attempted to enter our order into her tablet but for some reason it would not go through. After about 20 mins she gave up and told us - kindly - that she would ask someone else to wait our table. She seemed nervous and embarrassed but my wife and I were patient and truth be told, we are almost always willing to give a new server some slack.

A new waitress came to serve us. By now we had been in the restaurant for 30 mins: nothing ordered, no food served. The new waitress did not appear to have been informed as to why she was taking over….it was all very strange. Without a fuss (or referring to what happened before) we gave our entire order to waitress.

The appetizers arrived quickly - within 10 mins or so - as we usually come to expect at Jack Astors. But, the main courses did not come for almost an hour…. We kept trying to get the attention of our waitress for an explanation but she kept walking by without saying a word. After about 55 minutes we asked her if there was a problem in the kitchen. She said that our food was delayed because of a group of 30 that was being served. Wrong answer. I think we were at the restaurant before that group had arrived, and in any event, it really is not our concern. We thought that her answer was quite flippant.

Yesterday night me & my friends have a reservation there. My friend told that we are 18 yrs old +s which they ask for reservation. When we arrived receptionists (with dark brown hair)send us to our table but since there's few people were, I asked this beautiful & friendly blond waitress if we could move to the bar area, she thought we are minor but we show our iDs and so she was graciously asked the receptionist earlier to moved us. We noticed the dark brown haired receptionist was NOT PLEASED & RUDE to bring us to our new table. So we let that slide since the let us moved. The waitress was assigned to us was very accommodating and nice to get our orders. While waiting they giving free soups and beers. We noticed they skipped us. Non stop walking behind and front of us giving free beers and soups, and it triggers us. Nobody asked if we want one. So as the free drinks was over, my friend called one of the waiters. My friend told him we are being RACIAL PROFILED. We are being treated poor from the receptionist to these. Mind you we are only 3 Asians women at the bar. We told him we dont want the beer nor soup we just letting him know thats RACISM toward a paying costumer! Yesterday (October 6, 2023) is our 2nd time we went there & because of that incident we change our mind coming back! They don't know how to handle this situation. Advice if you're Asian like to take chances to go to Jack Astor bring a white friend (in my case my bf) for sure they will treat you better based on my experience from the past. It was beautiful and sunny and I was craving Elixor food but when we went, Elixor and the 3 restaurants next to it were closed. We found out later that it was because of Orthodox Easter.

So we made the round in Centropolis and settled for Jack Astor's as we saw a lot of people on the terasse. The staff was friendly and sat quickly, nice atmosphere.

💁‍♂️ Staff & order The staff though did not seem 100% organized and was a little confused (I'm sorry). More than 4 times, I saw different servers going with other people's food to wrong tables and were told no it's not their order and they were going from table to table to find the right table. They also took our food to another table before I waved them over. Same thing for the drinks. We were first brought other customers' drinks and later our drinks but he wasn't sure whether mine was non-alcoholic (I couldn't drink alcohol since I am expecting). Took the drink back to verify again and brought them back.

🍲Food We had: beef nachos, guacamole and chips and chicken wings. The nachos and chicken wings were good: 4 🌟 The guacamole not so much. A little watery and a little too much vinegar: 2 🌟

💰 Checkout We paid and the receipts came out but server said payment did not work. We advised that payment went through since we got both receipts come out. He went inside to verify with manager and advised that all was well.

All in all, I think staff needs a little more training. The food did not waouh me but I wouldn't say I wouldn't go back there. It will not be my first choice but I won't...
