My boyfriend and I decided to refuel at Gal Sushi after a fun afternoon of skating at the Civic Centre just across the street. While the overall experience had its highlights, there were some notable disappointments that left us with mixed feelings. Let's start with the positives. The side dishes were surprisingly good. The sweet glazed potatoes were a delightful sweet and savoury treat, and the cold noodles were a refreshing palate cleanser. The miso soup also stood out, offering a comforting warmth with a well-balanced umami flavour. However, the real letdown came when we dove into the main attraction – a 42-piece sushi platter. Unfortunately, the fish failed to meet our expectations. The overall freshness was lacking, and the flavours didn't quite live up to the standard we've come to expect from sushi joints. It felt like a missed opportunity for Gal Sushi to showcase something special. While the variety was there, with a diverse selection of rolls and nigiri, none of them truly stood out. The lackluster performance of most pieces made the dining experience less memorable than we had hoped for. The only saving grace was the salmon sashimi, which managed to salvage some points with its decent quality. Service-wise, the staff was polite but not so attentive, and the ambiance was pleasant enough for a casual meal after our skating adventure. In the end, Gal Sushi left us with mixed feelings. The side dishes and the pleasant atmosphere were positives, but the disappointment in the main course, especially with the sushi platter, significantly impacted our overall enjoyment. With room for improvement in the freshness and flavour department, we rate our experience at Gal Sushi a 2.5 out of 5. Here's hoping for some tweaks that can elevate the dining experience for future patrons.

No matter how many bad reviews this place gets, it will continue to be packed with customers; but I have had too many intolerable and annoying experiences with this place that it has accumulated up to a point where I am writing this review. Service: mediocre at best, the staff don’t have an attitude but are not nice and courteous either. When it gets busy, they are extremely ignorant. One time I called to place an order, I didn’t even finish my order yet and the waitress just gave me a number and hung up… like seriously? The only thing good about this place is that they are very lenient on substitutions. If you wanted to change all your sashimi to salmon sashimi in your bento, you can do that for an up charge. Food: I thought I was the only one who got extremely bloated from eating here, but after I came here with friends, it wasn’t just me. I don’t know what they add to their sushi that made my friends and I this way (we only ordered sushi and rolls) but also I don’t want to accuse them of using MSG as I don’t have clear cut evidence. The only thing that has kept me coming here in the past is their spicy salmon rolls and their combination platters which were tasty but I just kept getting so thirsty after eating it. Also, the rolls and the sushi have gotten smaller ever since COVID-19, before they were small but now they’re even smaller. Overall, I wouldn’t go back again after discovering new sushi places. The quality of fish they use is mediocre and the portions have gotten smaller. However, the lunch boxes are not bad since they are pretty inexpensive. Also, parking is a pain in this area.

I have been a regular customer at Gal's Sushi for quite some time now, and I can confidently say that it has become one of my favorite spots for a delightful sushi experience. The overall quality of service and food has left a lasting positive impression on me. One aspect that truly stands out is the fast and efficient service. The staff at Gal's Sushi are always prompt and attentive, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable dining experience. Whether it's a quick lunch or a leisurely dinner, the service is consistently top-notch. Speaking of consistency, the food at Gal's Sushi has been consistently excellent. The sushi rolls are made with fresh and high-quality ingredients, delivering a burst of flavors in every bite. The menu offers a diverse range of options, catering to both sushi enthusiasts and those looking to explore new flavors. I must admit that I had one less-than-perfect experience in the past, but I believe in giving credit where it's due. This isolated incident occurred when I dined in near closing hours, and it would be unfair for me to judge the entire establishment based on that particular visit. Since then, every visit has been nothing short of fantastic. Overall, Gal's Sushi has proven to be a reliable and enjoyable place to eat. The combination of fast and efficient service, consistently good food, and a diverse menu make it a standout choice for sushi lovers. I highly recommend Gal's Sushi to anyone seeking a positive dining experience, and I'm confident you'll find it to be a place worth returning to.
