I’m not sure if this restaurant is only used to serving regulars, but after my mom and I visited for the first time, we decided we wouldn’t come back.
First of all, the long-haired waitress was a bit manipulative. As soon as we got the menu, she kept pushing us to order the most expensive dish — the $48 eel claypot rice. It felt really uncomfortable. She should have given us time to go through the menu and decide, not pressure us just to make more money. If someone is a bit more soft-spoken, they could easily be pushed into ordering something they didn’t want. Luckily, I wasn’t in the mood for eel that day and firmly said no.
Secondly, we waited at least 30 minutes for our food. We ordered preserved meat claypot rice, stir-fried beef rice noodles, and seafood tofu soup. I understand claypot rice can take longer, but the other two shouldn’t have. After we chased them up, all three dishes suddenly came out at the same time — which felt very off.
Lastly, I have to bring up the long-haired waitress again. During the wait, when food was served, and even when it came time to pay, she completely disappeared — didn’t even glance at our table. But as soon as I took out cash, she magically appeared. Then after taking the money, she disappeared again. She didn’t return our change or bring the complimentary dessert that other tables seemed to get. We didn’t even know dessert was included until another short-haired waitress kindly offered it to us. In the end, someone from the cashier came out and handed us our change. The long-haired waitress never returned. She definitely didn’t deserve a tip.
If this restaurant is only meant for regulars, I’ve learned my lesson. As a first-time customer, I didn’t find the food particularly impressive — just average — but the way we were treated made us feel like we weren’t welcome. One star for the food being okay, and one star for the short-haired waitress who was actually polite and helpful.
Won’t be coming back. Strongly not...
Read moreThis restaurant has been a family weekend go-to for years - I came here when I was a teenager for their lunch specials and wonton soup noodles.
Pre-COVID, their quality was deteriorating and each subsequent meal brought more disappointment.
However, my family and I went back to eat here recently and we were so very pleasantly surprised at the quality, quantity, pricing, staffing and overall dining experience at Keung's.
Our family ate their classic dishes (plus some) and everything was just great. They have lunch combos and the stir fried beef noodle was delicious. Lots of beef slices, great bounciness of the noodles and a lot of "wok hei" (the Chinese wok giving the dish an extra kick in aroma and flavour).
Staff were pleasant and welcoming, and accommodated our various requests for extra soup in the wonton noodle soup, extra soup for the lo mein, a take out order while we ate with the drink in the combo while we dine etc. Their customer service was simply excellent.
They were very diligent in checking vaccine status and seating diners separately. My feedback to them is considering putting up plexiglass barriers between the back to back seating arrangements to make them even safer.
We haven't ventured back here for a long time but will certainly return now for both dine-in and takeout in the future. Please keep up your...
Read moreWent there for "afternoon tea combo special" first time with my friends. I ordered the fried rice noodle with beef dish. My friends' dishes had arrived shortly we put or order in. I was still waiting for mine to arrive. I repeatedly asking the waiters for my dish after waited for about 20 minutes but still no food for me. I've asked all the waiters. Those included (1 chubby one, one with a bigger built with short groomed hair) kept saying my dish will come. However, I saw them didn't bother going to the kitchen to check for my order. They kept pretending working hard. When I flagged them down again, the two didn't even bother looking into my direction. Finally, I flagged another waiter, a slim one, and he said that the kitchen ran out of rice noodle. I said why didn't any of the servers inform me. After waited for altogether 45 minutes, I finally got my food with a different choice. If it wasn't with my friends, I would have walked out of this NASTY restaurant. I was so disgusted about these 2 lazy, irresponsible waiters. Maybe they are the boss's sons or relatives but it doesn't give them any rights to be slagging off. Btw, I thought the food must be very good since there was a line up. Afterall, the food was just average with bad service. I don't think I will go back...
