"Chuck's Doghouse" serving garbage, bad service, and company profit fees!
Have seen the sign and decided to finally go in, what a mistake. Sat down and the server Roopa walked up. We ordered drinks, and I asked what was good on the menu, she looked nervous and said I don’t know. I asked if the Fish and Chips was good, she said “I don’t eat fish”. She came back I asked how were the hamburgers? She said, “I don’t eat meat”. I said you must eat something what do you recommend. She could not answer. That was bizarre and the start of what was to come.
I asked if the hamburgers were made fresh, she said yes, and cooked on the grill. We ordered the fish and chips and a hamburger combo. The fish and chips were cooked rock hard, and the hamburger was a previously frozen patty. We noticed a hair popping out of one of our tarter sauce bowls, we pointed it out to the server and she brought another one, yummy.
We could not finish either dinner, the food was not edible. The fries smelled like fish and the fish smelled like it was turning bad. I have worked in several restaurants and know what bad food is. While we sat at the table, we looked up the restaurant and were not surprised to see the 2.5 rating on Yelp, we wished we had looked it up before going in. We decided to just pay the bill, give back the rest of the food and leave, this would prove to be a problem.
I noticed on the bottom of my bill an Honest (lol) to Goodness charge. I asked the server what it was. She said, “I don’t know they charge this to everyone”. Then she walked away and brought the female bouncer – server who deals with people that don’t like this charge. She said, “it’s a charge we have that allows us to buy food in bulk”. I said OK but that is not legal, it is not posted anywhere, I was not made aware of the charge, and I want it removed from my bill. This woman stated, “its posted on our website”, I informed her I did not pull up their website and read all the text, which is not legal anyway. She went on to state “It’s not a tax!”. I said I didn’t say it was a tax. I want the illegal charge removed.
She left and up walks the owner – manager who had spent the time we were there at a table beside us eating, that is a portion of what the fee obviously covers.
He swaggered up to the table cleaning food from his teeth and said I understand you want to talk to me, we said, no we don’t. After explaining the issue, he said “it’s not a tax”! All staff are trained to repeat the same answer. I said I didn’t say it was a tax, we informed him the previous staff member stated it was a charge that allowed the restaurant to buy food in bulk. He said that’s wrong, she should have not stated that. He said, “it’s a charge that allows the place to sell alcohol cheaper” AND “to buy food in bulk”, its hard to not start laughing at this point. I stated that I was not assisting their company in bulk purchasing nor assisting people in getting drunk cheaper at the bar.
I will be filing a complaint with the government body overseeing Drip Pricing and continuing my research on the people that own this place and the Parent Company Obsidian Group.
I believe this companies Drip Pricing system lines the pockets of owners only and the price of drinks has nothing to do with the issue.
By the way, my two drinks were two Corona beers for $10.00. Pay the 3% illegal fee AND pay full pop on drinks. Something wrong here.

Read moreHad an unfortunate time at Chucks as I ordered the steak bites and received them both cold and overcooked. (Honestly, some of the worst food I’ve ever had) Upon notifying staff, I was told by management that they are supposed to be this way and that it’s also my fault for not letting them know right away. (I didn’t notify them right away as I didn’t want to make a big deal however other guests at my table agreed that the food was not cooked correctly.) So instead of apologizing for the food, I was told by management that this is my fault and there’s nothing I can do and the food is supposed to be this way. The cherry on top was being offered a scoop of ice cream instead. I have never experienced this before in my life, and I’ve worked in the service industry. I honestly felt disrespected by the way I was spoken to and it felt very accusatory when all I wanted was a warm properly cooked meal and was trying to be as respectful as possible.
I ended up not eating any food and requesting to speak to the manager again because I was still being charged for the food that I did not eat. I also felt that this issue was not dealt with correctly and wanted to have one more conversation with management to let them know I felt this way. Instead of apologizing for how the problem was dealt with I was issued a refund with no further comment from the manager.
From someone who never complains or tries to speak to the manager, I feel that this issue was dealt with in an extremely disrespectful manner. Even though I ended up receiving my money back, I left with no food and no apology for what happened.
I have zero complaints about my server as she was lovely and handled the situation perfectly. However, the food here is extremely subpar and management has no clue on how to treat customers. I work in the service industry and would have never dealt with this situation in that manner. If I could, I would give 0/5, one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had, left the restaurant with an empty stomach and felt extremely...
Read moreWas a pretty busy afternoon place was about half full - but there was only two servers and felt they could have hire more staff. The servers were polite and the service was good.
Location wise it’s a bar - but the cleanliness could have been better. The table we were sat had some crumbs on the table and also on the seats.
Ordered the spinach and goat cheese dip, lobster tail and filet mignon, and also the porterhouse steak.
The dip was good and it was hot. The pita break was also baked to a crisp. My only feedback here is the dip can have more spinach in it - as it felt a bit too little. Otherwise it was very enjoyable.
All steaks were ordered at med-rare.
The lobster and filet mignon ($35) was pretty good - lobster tail was big : but it didn’t taste fresh and probly from frozen, the steak was a little overcooked closer to medium but it was tender and delicious - especially with the Chuck BBQ sauce! I would say it holds its weight for the price.
The porterhouse steak came medium instead of medium rare, and was remade after we brought this to our server’s attention into medium rare perfection. Only issue was the cut of the steak - the thing is huge but about 30% of it was bone and tendons which is inedible. Again, for the price hard to complain.
Overall felt can have better steak elsewhere, but enjoyed the appetizer. Haven’t tried their ribs and other appetizers yet and they are very well priced. Might come back for drinks with friends but probly not for a meal (lunch or dinner.)
Note : be aware of their 3% “honest to goodness” charge which they are not up front about till you pay your bill. (Ironic the name of the charge has the word “honest” in it) did not notice this till after I paid my bill.
Ok ok… it’s just a few bucks nothing big - and some may not even notice this. However, I feel the waiters should be up front and tell their customers about this upon their visit. Apparently, charging this fee this is how they keep their menu prices low. (By moving the...
