Always fire! 🔥 Love to come here all the time with my boyfriend and it’s a great place to go with friends for a night out. We’re regulars at the Lakeshore location!

Service is EXCELLENT but if it’s really busy, understandably you’ll be waiting a bit longer here and there. We don’t mind so much, you’re guaranteed to be well taken care of regardless. We always come outta here SO FULL and like to take leftovers home (no waste!) and the staff are sooo kind, they packed up and separated everything on our plates so nicely. The vibes and energy of the staff and ambience never disappoints. I have to say the main floor gives off a much more bright, energetic vibe (which I love) as compared to the upstairs where it’s dimmer and more quiet (better suited if you’re trying to have conversation or like a generally calmer environment).

FOOD Housemade jalapeño poppers 12/10 Do yourself a favour and try these babies - if you can handle the heat! Comes with 5 huge jalapeños stuffed with cheesy chorizo filling, lightly battered and fried to ultimate perfection (the jalapeño is cooked through but still retains the fresh bite). I’m a huge sauce person so I like to ask for extra crema as well. Great to share between two or a group.

Guacamole 10/10 Huge portion! They do it well and so worth it if you’re sharing with a group. You can tell they pick and choose quality, well ripened avocados that makes for the creamiest texture & the tortilla chips are those hearty, homemade ones with a nice crunch. Can’t go wrong with this classic appetizer.

Fish tacos 10/10 Without a doubt the best fish tacos we’ve ever had. So fresh, so light, outside is crispy and fish is tender. Never over done, generous portion, and no fishy aftertaste. The amount of fresh coleslaw in each taco I’d say is the perfect ratio. The dish comes with what I believe are their housemade salsas - also super fresh & they’ve pack both heat and flavour! My partner and I prefer the fish over the shrimp but it’s really just personal preference! Our friends love the shrimp tacos more.

Quesabirrias 10/10 The most savoury, flavour-packed dish you’ll ever experience. I’ve tried another place and El Mariachi just has it down pat - from all the different toppings (freshly diced onion, cilantro and salsas served on the side so you can assemble your own bite) and a generous serving of consummé.

DRINKS Rumchata 9.5/10 Spiked horchata. My boyfriend’s favourite! So delicious, just wish it was maybeee 1.5x the portion? We finish it this drink really quickly but wouldn’t necessarily want to order a WHOLE other 2nd drink.

Frozen Key Lime Colada 8/10 The frozen cocktails are my go-to since they help me out a lot with taming the heat/spice of the meals! They recently changed the recipe the last time I went - I preferred the old recipe as it was less sour, much creamier and more coconut-y. I would’ve rated that 10/10 but current one is still yummy, very citrusy and refreshing.

Tequila shots 10/10 They don’t skimp! Filled to the rim and served w a lime for each.

DESSERT Tres Leches 9.5/10 This is the only dessert I shoot for. It’s so popular sometimes they’re out of stock. I took off a half star because it’s a little inconsistent (A. peach topping hard green apples??) but when it’s good,...

this place from the outside is nice and inviting but the chicken tinga tacos gave me food poisoning and the owner was very defensive and insensitive about it. I’ve never had a worse experience, as I did dealing with the owner of Port Credit’s El Mariachi’s. I emailed the owner not even two hours after leaving the restaurant because I began vomiting and having the chills and explained in my email that it may have been something to do with the food. I did not get a reply until the next day, and mind you this was AFTER i called El Mariachi’s and the manager on duty said they would let the owner know I was trying to get ahold of them. The owners first email was extremely rude, as he dismissed my concern and told me that it wasn’t there food that made me sick and that I cannot contract food poisoning that quickly. Mhm I didn’t know they were doctors? So I followed up asking for a refund (rightfully so) Then the owner came back and said as quoted directly from the email “There is a  certain type of person that only resolve is demanding a refund  immediately. And saying how terrible the food is. I can confirm, without a doubt  that it was not food poisoning.” … “certain type of person” I wonder what they meant by that? Isn’t it my right as a customer to ask for a refund if the food made me sick? as sick as I was I even had to send them screenshots of proof of what food poisoning is, how soon it can be contracted (which you’ll notice below is 30 MINS AFTER FOOD HAS BEEN EATEN), and the symptoms.. I’ve put the screenshots below as well. This was terrible customer service and consideration as especially from an OWNER. I’ll say it again, I...

Horrendous service Wednesday evening (last night). Waited 25 minutes after being seated for our drink and food order to be taken and that is because we waved arms in the air to get someones attention. Staff in every single role socializing with one another, a buzz of social activity from front of the house all the way into the kitchen. Staff do not make eye contact as they walk by any tables, you have to go out of your way to get their attention. No one asked how the food was or offered drink refills. Food was cold and salty. Empty drink cup for most of the meal. I asked for a refill twice before my cup was taken, refilled with pop but no ice. Odd. Beer was flat and skunky. We go out each month, drinks-apps-main-coffee and dessert. We skipped coffee and dessert. The bill arrives and they had added the tip already, I guess that explains the horrendous customer service, they are getting tipped no matter how they treat customers. I will never be back. How they are in business is beyond me. How they have 5 star reviews is a mystery. Nothing authentic about the food. Cold and salty is an insult to the cuisine. All staff need training in customer service in a restaurant setting. Zero stars should be an option. So many moving parts were all bad so it is hard to believe it was an off night. Definitely not at capacity so being busy...

We normally go to the port credit location, so we decided to try the new location today. I ordered the Mexican Street Corn Cup and Al Pastor tacos. My husband had the Jalapeno Poppers and Chorizo Tacos. Although the street corn was tasty and had a nice tang tonite, there was a lot of water/moisture at the bottom of the cup. I've had this dish at other restaurants and have never seen that amount of water build up. The Al Pastor tacos and chorizo were tasteless unless you put some hot sauce on them. The pastor meat was over cooked and on the dry side. The jalapeno poppers would have been much better had they been a little crispier on the outside. Also found them really pricey for what they were. They were quite soft. Overall I give the food about 3.5/4 stars. The wait staff was super friendly and prompt with our order which was great. The location was good, although a little farther away from all the port credit action. We sat on the upper patio which was nice, however very dark outside. The atmosphere was okay. It was lacking the lights and maybe some music? Overall , the experience was a 4/5.
