Update: Although I appreciate the restaurant replying back to my feedback, I want to challenge the statement given about the quality of your cheese. I would start by recommending a change to your cheese supplier if you are so sure that your cheese is not a cheap ingredient. There is NO WAY the cheese going in your cheese katsu is legit mozzarella cheese. It was very reminiscent of craft single cheese as it had a very low melting point and did not revert back to its original shape even after the food was cold....real mozzarella is supposed to be stringy and elastic, NOT gooey. I would strongly suggest you to use actual mozzarella cheese for your cheese katsus for the better quality of your food and the satisfaction of your customers.

I really do like your variety of sauce, and I am truly sad about yesterday's experience as I was looking forward to a good dinner...unfortunately, we will not be returning to this location again.

Best of luck.

I used to be a big fan for Katsuya, as I love their variety in sauce selection, however last night was such a big disappointment. We ordered one red carbonara cheese katsu, one original pork katsu, and extra order of cheese katsu.

First of all, red carbonate sauce was very watery. It was not thick at all, and amount of seafood they put in sauce has decreased very significantly which was the first disappointment.

Secondly, the quality of cheese in cheese katsu was sooooo bad! It is supposed to be mozzarella cheese they put in there, but it did NOT taste like mozzarella at all, and it smelled a bit funky too. It didn't have ANY chewy texture in cheese, and it was just so weird. It felt like they used some sort of extra processed cheap cheese they sell in cheap grocery store. I honestly couldn't finish my cheese katsu, because texture and smell of the cheese was soooo bad. Due to melted cheese, that's not good at all, crust of the katsu was extremely soggy as well. They used to use low moisture mozzarella cheese in the past, but I feel like they are cutting corners to save cost, which as existing customer feels cheated.

Third of all, this is not so much of a complaint, but heads up: their 30% off cash payment promotion is no longer there. I have paid total of 60 dollars for food yesterday, which isn't very cheap for katsu. I would not have minded price point, if quality of food held up. However with yesterday's horrible experience, I can confidently say that I won't be back.

Those of you who want to taste real cheese katsu should definitely give Mr.Tonkatsu a try. They use legit mozzarella cheese, and they don't cut corners like Katsuya did.

I just want to say that I am really disappointed and sad about this change in their...

2025 updated review I figured it's time to update my review. Unfortunately, it will be going down to 4 stars. To no surprise, their prices increased and their portions got smaller. No biggie there, it's happened everywhere.

I feel the quality and taste can be inconsistent at times. It's been a while since I've sat down at the restaurant, but the last few times I was there, I noticed they stopped serving the picked cabbage (side dish). The miso soup is your pretty standard miso, nothing too special there. I believe I had the red carbonara katsu, and it lacked a lot of flavour. It's not the same as it was before sadly. However, I'm still impressed with the honeycomb & sweet chilli. My go-to protein is the fish which is always cooked to my liking. The chicken can be very dry, which is why I avoid ordering it.

Tonight, I ordered take out for the chicken karaage and sweet chilli fish katsu. It looks like they've switched back to the udon soup (yay!) but it is also quite light tasting. The karaage is cooked nicely, it's not dry and they've provided the sauce on the side! The sweet chilli katsu sauce was provided on the side as well, and it's taken me back to the old-school quality (aka VERY good). I think there's been a change in the cabbage salad dressing as it tasted more soy-saucey and lacks the tangyness it used to have. The picked radish also got smaller, but I'm still happy with it.

Overall, I'm pretty satisfied! Again, the quality can be inconsistent which is why I've dropped from a 5 to a 4. Can't say much on customer service either since my takeout was my most recent interaction. I hope more flavours will be coming out in the future!

3 yr old review HOW?! How can a restaurant nail it every single time? Each time I come here, the quality and taste are always consistent. Their food never disappoints. I'm a big fan of their sweet chilli chicken/fish katsu which is cooked to a nice crisp. Their breading is made in house, using their own loaves. Their sauces with the katsu are on par. Recently I've gotten into the chicken karaage (thigh with Korean sauce that's a little spicy) and it tastes amazing! It's got a nice crunch to it as well. Servers are friendly, and you're always greeted by the kitchen staff. Unfortunately the dining area is closed during COVID, but it's a nice, cozy atmosphere that's a good spot to have a meal in. Definitely will be sitting in once this...

Dishes Ordered:

Tartar Shrimp: ★★★☆☆ Pork Loin Original Katsu Curry: ★★★★★ Miso Soup: ★★★★★ Cabbage Salad: ★★☆☆☆ Variety of Curry Options: ★★★★★ Overall Experience: ★★★★☆ Review:

Having heard a great deal about Katsuya, a Japanese restaurant renowned in Mississauga, I was keen to sample their fare. My culinary exploration began with the Tartar Shrimp and ventured into the realm of their Pork Loin Original Katsu Curry.

Tartar Shrimp: The shrimp tempura was fried to a golden perfection, boasting a crispy exterior that was immensely satisfying. However, the shrimp themselves felt a touch on the smaller side, and while the accompanying tartar sauce was a novel touch, I found myself longing for the familiar, umami-rich embrace of soy sauce. Thus, my personal preference leans towards traditional pairings, but it was an interesting variation nonetheless.

Pork Loin Original Katsu Curry: The star of my meal, this dish was a delightful journey through texture and taste. The pork loin was expertly fried, achieving that elusive balance of crunch and tenderness that makes for perfect katsu. The curry, albeit sweeter than my usual preference for a spicier kick, was still enjoyable and complemented the katsu beautifully. It's worth noting that Katsuya offers a vast array of curry options, allowing for a tailored dining experience that can cater to various tastes.

Miso Soup: A simple yet profoundly comforting dish, the miso soup was a highlight. Its savory depth was the perfect palate cleanser, embodying the essence of traditional Japanese cuisine.

Cabbage Salad: Accompanying the curry was a cabbage salad, which, admittedly, did not align with my personal tastes. However, this is purely subjective, and others might find it to be a refreshing component of the meal.

Overall Experience: Katsuya presents an extensive menu, particularly in the realm of curries, providing ample opportunity for customization. The quality of the dishes speaks to the skill and authenticity Katsuya strives for. While I had my preferences and reservations about certain aspects, the overall dining experience was positive, making Katsuya a worthy contender for those in pursuit of Japanese cuisine in Mississauga. Whether you're a fan of sweet or spicy, there's something here for everyone to...
