DISAPPOINTED with SERVICE + PRICE then charged extra for included items one receives elsewhere. I have read the reviews here and it is obvious that most 5 star reviews are from known people to Leela or those who were given a discount to write a review. Here is my experience-------(happened every time at Leela's): From time to time I like to eat different foods from different countries. For Chinese, I go to Tremendous, for Indian (Alramzan) on Ridgeway and for Rotis I go to Wanda's Caribbean on Lakeshore,Clarkson and when in the area, I go to Leela's...... I placed my order when it was my turn. I ordered a roti ( $ 15.80 ) -- $15.80 is not chump change for a roti. You should be able to receive the standard requests other takeout restaurants give. I asked: "can I have it sliced once in the middle (like a sandwich).?" I am told that will cost me $ 1.00 fee extra to have a knife slice it. (I am shocked at this point)... I told her I can slice it myself if she gives me the knife, for free, that I will not charge her for my labour. She stands expressionless and repeats, "the slice is $ 1.00 extra". No thanks Leela...I'll keep the tab at $15.80. Then when my order is ready, I am handed a paper bag with a dirty diaper in it. Yes, that's exactly how it looks...like a rolled up dirty diaper, wet and about to burst with oozing. I then ask " serviettes please?" I am then given a stare or look of death, but nothing is said, and I receive 4 serviettes with my bag. I leave and go eat outside as it is one week before restaurants are opened fully again and final time. As I open the bag, it all oozes out, leaking everywhere on me, on my possessions etc. I return back to the store to ask if I can use the restroom because I have roti sauce all over me, "no it's locked due to Covid because when our eat-in is closed, our restroom is closed". That doesn't make sense because waiting customers need to use the restroom. She then gives me the key, but I must turn the light off, lock the door. Yes, no problem. I return the key and then ask her for a styrofoam serving box which are all laid out in front of my eyes. "we charge extra for those". I remind her that I just paid $15.80 for a roti that just leaked all over, and that it should be included. She finally gives me a tiny styrofoam box and says "there is an extra charge". I understand extra charge here and there but 15.80 for a roti already has the merit for it to be served in a styrofoam box if a customer asks, and not as a dirty diaper in a bag. I am still shocked about the $1.00 charge for a slice with a knife. Your seating area is closed, therefore you are generating more money with "to go" orders. Your rent doesn't cost the same as a Roti shop incurs downtown Toronto, being in a lower income area of Mississauga.Wanda's Caribbean offers a discount special for lunch specials and she doesn't ask extra for a slice or styrofoam. Come on Leela...don't be so greedy...
Read moreOn this crisp and slightly snowy-ish morning in February, I was sprawled out on my couch, tired and hungry, eagerly awaiting my grocery pickup time so I could make some food to satisfy my hunger pains. Out of nowhere, the light from outside my window became very bright as if the clouds cleared and the heavens opened up. I mustered up the energy to look outside and I noticed a package waiting on my front porch. Nobody around. Not a soul outside. Was I dreaming? Nope. So I ventured down to the door and attached to the bag was a receipt from Skip the Dishes with the name Leela’s Roti & Doubles printed at the top. Surely in my delirious state of hunger I didn’t order food! Or…did I?? Leela’s is not a restaurant I had ever heard of before, so there must have been some kind of mix up. I called the restaurant to see if they could track down the address that belonged to the order. The woman on the other end of the telephone was very lovely and attentive to my concern over this little bundle of delicious smelling food that had been sent to the wrong home. Now, I thought to myself, if even half of this amount of love and attention I received over the phone, was put into the making of their food, then this restaurant should be experienced by everyone at least once in their lifetime. At the end of our conversation I was told they did not have an address and I was advised to enjoy the food. But I wasn’t finished trying to find this food it’s rightful and intended belly, so I chatted with Skip to see if they could point me in the right direction. For obvious reasons they too were unable to provide an address and they said they would just refund the original order. I felt bad for the poor person waiting and waiting for their food only to be surprised with a message saying their order had been refunded. But alas, I tried my best. At this point there was not much else I could do…except, eat the food. But before doing so I needed to check and see what I was getting myself into…2 Doubles (medium spice) and Aloo Paratha. BOTH are things I’ve had before but not in a VERY long time. What are the chances?!?! So, I dug in! And I’m glad I did! Every bite was absolutely delightful with the perfect amount of spice. It was as if I actually HAD place this order myself (which I had not) and the food was made specifically for me (which it wasn’t). Needless to say, thank you Leela’s for making such delicious food. You are now on my list of go-to’s if I’m ever in the mood for some takeaway. And thank you to the Skip driver. Listen, we’re all human and we make mistakes…I still appreciate you, especially for blessing me with this deliciousness. The original order I’m sure by now has been refunded, and my belly is now full and my body has the energy to go and pick up my groceries....
Read moreThis is a warning... not every food establishment can be trusted through Doordash. This is a trying time for everyone and providing poor customer service will not win you a 5 star review. Sunday, January 31st 2022 I decided to treat myself to something to eat I decided to order a boneless chicken Roti small and a stew chicken with rice and peas small. I used Doordash, and received my order promptly. When I opened my bag after receiving it I got a gravy bowl of 6 mini pieces of chicken breast in water down gravy. ( curry / and stew chicken ) as shown in the photos. I immediately called Leela's and tried to talk to the owner. At that moment she was arguing with staff and another customer on another phone and it was not pleasant. The owner finally got back to me and accused me of not knowing what I was doing on the app... then said to me that I should call Doordash and complain to them about the problem I tried explaining to her the issue of what I received but she cut the conversation short and said that " I am not in the business for giving away food to customers" after I paid them 30.00 direct payment , but my receipt was 25.94 including tips. She continued to be argumentative although I didn't get a word in to try to correct the problem. The owner cut the conversation short thanked me and told me to go back to Doordash she said its not her problem and hung up the phone. The problem was never solved. I didn't get what I order nor did I get a refund. Leela's food is good but the customer service is extremely poor. Will not be supporting this black owned business. Purchase at...
