Mutabak Karak is truly a gem in North America! We were warmly welcomed by Amana, whose passion and dedication to providing authentic Arabian hospitality made our visit extra special. Her genuine care and love for what she does truly shines through in her service.
It's incredible to think this is the only place in all of North America serving mutabak, a traditional Yemeni street food that draws patrons from across Canada and even the USA! People drive hours just to experience the rich flavors, and now we understand why. The menu is a delightful journey through the Arabian peninsula, Indian subcontinent, and Southeast Asia, offering a range of traditional dishes you would typically need a plane ticket to enjoy!
We were thrilled to finally try the famous Chapati with Chips Oman—something we've always associated with the Arabian peninsula. No need for an overseas flight this time!
Here's our rundown of what we ordered: Chapati Chips Oman (4/5): The flavor was delicious, though we wished there was more filling. Having only tried it on paratha before, we noticed the chapati's thicker texture called for a heartier amount of filling to balance it out. Chapati Halva & Feta (3/5): While it was generously filled, we personally preferred the Chips Oman combo. Date Bread Pudding Pistachio (3.5/5): Visually stunning, but not entirely to our taste. Mutabak Honey & Cream with Banana (4/5): Light, tasty, and a perfect dessert after our meal! Arabic Coffee (5/5): Absolutely divine! A must-try.
The decor was spot on—rich Khaleeji influences, with the comforting scent of oud in the air, making us feel like we were far from Canada. Traditional music played as we waited for our order, and the little buzzers were a nice modern touch to keep things smooth and efficient. The space was well-lit, open late, and above all, exuded the warmth of true Arabian hospitality.
The only thing we were slightly surprised by was the pricing, which felt a bit higher than we expected for street bites. While the authenticity and quality are undeniable, it's something to keep in mind. However, considering this is a unique experience where you can enjoy these traditional bites—the prices might reflect the rarity and care put into the offerings.
We can’t wait to visit...
Read moreI don't even know where to start. I ordered mutabak during my lunch break on Aug 13, I got the classic and an iced karak. I haven't eaten all day and I was starving. Throughout the day I started to get crazy cramps but major diarrhea but I thought maybe its because of something I ate late night....so I brushed it off. Later in the evening my significant other came home and asked whats for dinner? I told him I hadn't cooked, so he suggested to go out. He wanted to try this place so I said ok....we got there and we ordered the classic mutabak, the minced beef with cheese, the omlette chapati and iced karak. Keep in mind my husband hasn't eaten all day so this will be his first meal of the day and I only ate from Mutabak Karak in the morning. now, don't get me wrong the vibes are nice, the decor is nice, the attention to detail on their packaging is nice, even the service was okay. Anyway we got our food and the dough was kind of raw and the meat tasted kind of weird, the onions were chopped really big but we didn't think much of it. We had a few things we needed to do so we boxed up the rest and went on our way. Approximately 2 hours or so after we ate I began to violently vomit in the car like through my nose and everything. My husband got home and basically slept in the washroom. We stayed up all night very sick after we ate this food, from both ends. I don't know if the meat was sitting out too long or if it was thawed then refrozen, or the eggs went bad or what but now I will never eat here again and I don't recommend...
Read moreMy first time visiting the street bites Middle Eastern shop, overall this new concept of flat crispy roti with filling is not unknown, but the type that was being made along with going there for the first time I just wanted to experience and see what was the hype about.
Starting off with the actual location in the Ridgeway Plaza, and it is designed very well. Somebody did take some time and effort into making a very good experience. There is not a lot of seating, but there is some fancy type of seating where there is a small table present where you can sit down and eat your order.
One of the issues that was the way it did take over 25 minutes for our single order of one flatbread and I don’t know why it took so long. They weren’t even that busy but it did take time, and I don’t know if they made it from scratch but that was sort of unacceptable.
Coming to the actual food it was a very unique type of flavour experience, and I will say that I want to try some more of the options that they do have but the price point is quite high for a street food that can be sold and a bunch of lower option. if you’re paying for the ambiance and all of the other things are present within the restaurant but the actual food that’s being served is much higher price point than it should be. I don’t think that should be worth it as much.
I will be coming back to try the different options they have, but I do believe that waiting time should be cut down and also the price...
