My Dad starting bringing me to this butcher shop back in the 90's, back when they were still on Lorne Park Road. It used to be (back when I was younger, of course) such an interesting place to be. Back then when I was only about 5 or 6, I used to love going and spending time with Frank and his late father (who founded NJS!) for hours with my Dad; I used to organize the jars that were out on the shelves, in terms of colour of the label and made sure the label was facing front (I was a very... different child.) Later on in life, I decided to become a vegetarian, which, I'm not entirely sure why, as I'm not anymore. During that time, my dad still shopped here religiously, every weekend. While he shopped, he developed a great friendship with Frank and his father, to the point where my dad's trips there were often over 2 hours long. Not because he wasn't served promptly; he was and still is! He jut loves hanging around the place, because the vibe is very laid back, the prepared meals smell and ARE amazing, and it's just all around a great place to be. In terms of quality... Not Just Steaks is UNMATCHED. Honestly, what are you doing if you're buying your meats from Metro or Loblaws...? Do you enjoy chewing on tough meat for 16 minutes before swallowing? Do you like bland & mundane flavours? Are you really admitting to being that boring? Yikes. Do yourself a favour of treat yourself to some NJS. Not only do they have a huge extensive collection of readily available cuts of meat, but they have more in the back to get custom cuts (see: The Garry Cut**), if that's what you're after. They have fancy cheeses, dips, spreads, crackers, pasta, and a selection of fresh vegetables, and drinks too. Don't feel like meat? No problem, they have you covered for "pre-made" frozen dinners, like Curry Chicken, Lasagna, Cannelloni... I guarantee that if you stop by Not Just Steaks, it'll be your Not Just One Stop Shopping for the best meat/food in the Port Credit, Clarkson, Lorne Park area.
**The Garry Cut: Not for the faint of heart or for someone who gets full after 10 minutes into a meal. Garry, my father, genuinely has a certain specific type of cut dedicated to him. Why? Because no, my father doesn't just get a regular cut... he insists on a cut of steak nearly 4-5 inches thick. I'm not kidding. Stop laughing. Stop not believing me. Go to NJS NOW; and ask for The Garry Cut. They'll know. Only a few people have tried and succeeded, but my god, The Garry Cut is a monster, but is so delicious. The Garry Cut. You heard it here first, folks.
10/10 NJS....
Read moreI honestly don't know what has happened to this place, but our experience was absolutely terrible and I need to warn others. We were drawn in by the good old reviews, but what we were served was a health hazard. Our first bad meal was this Monday. The steak sandwiches we bought were a complete disaster. They were packed with low quality, gristly meat that you couldn't even chew, we had to spit out mouthfuls. My wife's pasta from that day was also clearly old and stale. We made the mistake of giving them the benefit of the doubt and went back today, Thursday. This time, we got a quesadilla, and I am not exaggerating when I say a fly fell out of the box when we opened it. It was sickening. The quesadilla itself was just as bad: old, cold ground beef with almost no cheese, tasting only of cheap taco spice. The pita is rock hard, not because of sitting on the stove but because it's expired and it was undercooked. It was the worst quesadilla I've ever had in my life. To serve food like this is shameful. This place is coasting on a memory of what it used to be, while serving food that's inedible and contaminated. Don't waste your money or risk getting sick. We will...
Read moreI’ve always liked to support small and local shops and businesses, especially during the pandemic, since I know most small businesses are having a hard time. But this one I will not support anymore. The first time I went there was because of all the reviews. I don't believe that all these good reviews are even possible now. I've been coming here for for awhile.I recently purchased the homemade roast beef it tasted sour and spoiled. I asked for a pound and got a pound and a half for almost $20. I asked about grass fed and organic meats the butcher was miserable. He went to the back and asked Frank. Not once did Frank come out. I spent a total of $120 in ten minutes .MESSAGE TO FRANK IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO COME OUT TO SPEAK TO YOUR CUSTOMERS THEN MAYBE IT'S ABOUT TIME THAT YOU RETIRE YOUR QUALITY IS NOT THE SAME AND YOUR PRICES ARE WAY TOO EXPENSIVE PLUS IF A CUSTOMER ASKS FOR A POUND YOU GIVE THEM A POUND. I BELIEVE BECAUSE THE ROAST BEEF WAS SPOILED YOU TRIED TO PUSH A POUND AND A HALF. BUT INSTEAD THAT COST YOU MY BUSINESS AND I WILL NEVER RETURN AGAIN. I WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT ALL OTHER LOCAL...
