TLDR: Waited almost an hour for our food, only to have it sent to a different table. Didn't know if they would salvage the same food and serve to us, so we left.
After a workout, my husband and I decided to go to Tomo Sushi to celebrate and end the week. We were hungry and wanted to go to a good sushi spot. We decided on Tomo because we had good experiences in the past and the high ratings on Google reviews further supported our decision.
We arrived at 9pm and waited a few minutes behind a family to be seated. The energy from the staff was a bit odd, because nobody really acknowledged us. It was a busy Friday night, so we didn't mind.
We finally get a table and got in our order of a medium sushi tray shortly after. There is a sign on the table encouraging us to leave a Google review for a free dessert. I begin to doubt the reliability of the 5-star Google reviews.
I must add that at no point did anyone warn us of any issues or delays to service, or any limitations to the menu due to the 10pm closing time (I noticed they recently changed their closing time to 9:30pm).
By 9:30pm, our waitress tells us our food will be ready very soon. We don't see her again, and I assume that was the end of her shift. Meanwhile, many customers cycle in and out for their take-out orders.
At 9:40pm, we ask another waitress to check on our order. She assures us that it will be another 2 minutes. We continued to wait, because it was a busy night.
At 9:50pm, we are aware that they will be closing, because all the tables around us either left or were finishing their meal. We see the sushi chefs preparing a tray and assume that it must be for us. No, it was for the family that was seated right before us, far across the restaurant in the private area. We're not too worried, because the chefs are preparing a second tray and we were confident the tray was ours. No, it went to the same table.
One of the servers asked the chefs about our order and he is surprised and indicates that all of the orders were filled. The chefs were already cleaning their station. The server checks the computer system and walks back over to the other table to retrieve the tray of sushi. They bring it to the back, and I realize that they gave the other table our order. We get up and tell the staff we are leaving and the manager is apologetic and asks us to wait 5 minutes more for our order. There is no way they were going to make a brand new tray for us in 5 minutes. It seemed likely they would fix up the tray that the other table picked at and I...

On my first visit, I was warmly welcomed by a charming staff member named Soo. Her fantastic recommendations made the experience all the more enjoyable and helped my taste buds embrace the flavors!
Let’s talk about the Tomo tartare—it was an absolute delight! And the tuna and salmon rolls? They were a flavor explosion, especially when paired with wasabi and zesty sliced ginger. It truly felt like a celebration in every bite!
Usually, I reserve high ratings, but this experience absolutely deserves a stellar 8.7/10. I couldn’t help but think having a couple of creative cocktails would have taken it to the next level! While the mini vege udon didn’t hit the mark for me, I can definitely see seaweed snack lovers absolutely reveling in it.
And hold onto your hats for dessert! The matcha panna cotta was a delightful surprise, earning an impressive 8.8/10. It wasn't the overpowering treat I dreaded; rather, its smooth texture was a dreamy delight!
The restaurant's atmosphere? A solid 8.7/10—inviting and vibrant.
As for the washroom, I’d give it a respectable 7/10.
Trust me, you’ll want to experience this culinary journey for yourself!p
FYI: We had the tempura platter, a glass of white wine and a beer. Also, not forgetting this small tip. If you’re going for the first time, make sure you are hungry just so you can fully enjoy the...
Read moreWe went to Tomo Sushi for dinner today to celebrate my mom’s birthday. We ordered the sashimi, sushi, and maki platter. We felt that the price was very reasonable for the quality of food. It was fresh and delicious. 4 adults shared the platter and we were so full afterwards.
But what made our celebration so perfect was our waiter, Gray. He was so attentive from the moment we sat down until we left. We literally didn’t have to ask for anything because he just knew what we needed and brought them before we had to ask. We walked in with kids, and he asked if we needed a high chair. He noticed I brought a birthday cake and offered to keep it in their fridge. We ordered a bowl of chicken donburi for our two littles, and he brought extra sets of bowls and cutlery for them to share. He offered to bring the Korean spicy sauce for sashimi. He checked in a couple times to make sure we didn’t need anything else. When we were done, he was quick to clear the table and ask if we wanted the cake now. He brought it up all set up with the candle, and after the whole singing and pictures, he brought a cake knife, extra plates, and forks for us to enjoy our cake. And wished my mom happy birthday as we were leaving.
At one point, Andy (I think the manager) came to check on us as well. To sum it up, it was just extraordinary customer service delivered by Gray that I rarely see at other places now. I will definitely be making more visits...
