If you’ve never experienced a Japanese cheesecake before, Uncle Tetsu at Square One Mall is an excellent place to start. The moment you approach the shop, you’re greeted with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly baked cheesecakes wafting through the air. It’s hard to walk by without at least stopping for a peek — and once you do, you’ll probably walk away with a box in hand.

The cheesecakes here are exactly what Uncle Tetsu is famous for: light, fluffy, and delicately sweet, with just the right amount of creaminess. They have a melt-in-your-mouth texture that’s unlike the dense, heavy cheesecakes most of us are used to in North America. Each bite feels airy yet satisfying, and you can easily finish a whole cake without feeling overstuffed. The quality is consistently high — no matter when I’ve visited, the cakes have always been fresh and perfectly baked.

In addition to the classic Japanese cheesecake, this location also offers a nice selection of madeleines and other baked treats. The madeleines are buttery and soft, with a gentle sweetness that pairs perfectly with tea or coffee. The packaging is neat, simple, and elegant, making it great for gifts, whether you’re visiting friends or just want to bring something special to a gathering.

Service here is always efficient and friendly. Even during busy times — and there’s often a line on weekends — the staff work quickly to serve customers, explain the different options, and make sure you’re taken care of. The display is clean and organized, and you can watch some of the baking process, which adds to the charm and makes you appreciate the freshness even more.

Pricing is reasonable for what you get. Considering the quality ingredients, the time it takes to bake each cake, and the fact that they’re made fresh daily, you’re paying for an experience as much as for the product itself. That said, the one tip I’d give is to enjoy the cheesecake as soon as possible — preferably the same day — to get that full soft and fluffy texture. It’s still good after a day or two, but nothing compares to the just-baked version.

Overall, Uncle Tetsu at Square One delivers exactly what you’d expect from the brand and more: delicious Japanese cheesecakes that are worth every bite, efficient and friendly service, and an experience that keeps you coming back. Whether you’re a cheesecake lover or just curious to try something different, this is a spot you should absolutely check out when you’re...

On August 21, I purchased a Yuzu Cheesecake, but the staff gave me an original flavor cheesecake instead. When I returned the following Monday to purchase a Matcha cheesecake and tart, I explained the previous issue to the staff before making my purchase. Unfortunately, both the staff and the manager handled the matter very poorly.

No apology was offered when I first raised the issue. I even showed my electronic payment record that clearly displayed the date, time, and store location, yet no one seemed to care.

The staff and manager repeatedly asked for a paper receipt, which I no longer had. However, my purchase record is legitimate proof of my transaction.

The manager refused to take responsibility and simply told me to “contact Uncle Tetsu by email,” claiming there was nothing they could do. Only after a long discussion did the manager finally offer a very reluctant apology.

I want to emphasize that I was not asking for a refund. My expectation was simply for the store to acknowledge its mistake and improve its service. Since your products have different packaging colors for different flavors, I cannot understand how such a basic error could happen in the first place.

What upset me even more was the poor service attitude. After the manager’s apology, when I continued to purchase my cake, the staff member who served me was visibly unfriendly—no smile, a frown, and an impatient tone. This left me with the impression that not only was the mistake ignored, but I was also treated disrespectfully as a customer.

Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. It makes me question the quality of staff training and the level of customer care at this location. Uncle Tetsu is known for its reputation and product quality, but unfortunately, the service I received did not reflect...

There's this unspoken agreement that if you see a huge line up at a food spot... you better do yourself good and join that line....even if you've never heard of the food spot. LOL. Well I did and I'm so so glad I did!.. Never heard of Uncle Tetsu cheesecake but that line up and a quick google review search convinced me I need to give it a shot. First I stay away from sweets koz I have zero sweet tooth...I took the first bite into the cheesecake tart and knew I just found my all time fave baked goods place. The cheesecake tart was soo so divine... wasn't Sugar packed at all... you can taste the yumminess of the cheese, the crust was super butter flaky... cheesecake is my fave and only cake I eat....I have to admit I prefer this cheesecake tart to actual cheesecake The Madeline is another buttery goodness I loved. The simplicity of thier menu and ingredients is what wins for me... nothing over the top or complex. I'm just mindblown how this is not drenched in sugar but still soooo good. Def make sure I make a stop here each time I'm at Square one. Ps my picture doesn't do it...

The world best Cheese cales and tarts. Also, some people like the miffins a lot but I do not find them as exciting as the cheese tarts. Also there is just no comparisions between both or them. Anyways, going further, lets talk about what I tried. Obviously, the world famous Uncle Tetsu’s cheese cake and the chesse tarts. The original cheesecake costs around $12 ex tax. It us the most fluffy thing I’ve ever eaten The cheese tart costs $3.50 for a single tart and $17.5 for a pack of 6 Next is the cheese tart, it is so cheese with the cracker base is so crunchy it seems like both of them mix so well with each other it is an blessing to the mouth. Must must visit.
