Initially, upon hearing about Square One, I had assumed it to be a modest, unassuming mall. However, to my surprise, Food District Mississauga shattered my preconceptions. The sheer scale and variety of dining options within Square One left me in awe. It was a revelation; how had I, inadvertently, overlooked this culinary gem? I was about to correct that mistake with my second stay.
Nowadays, at places like Square One, the dynamics have shifted dramatically. Food has taken center stage, becoming a focal point of the mall experience, while shopping plays a supporting role. Despite the encroachment of online giants like Amazon, who have claimed a significant share of retail profits, the charm of dining out remains unconquered. Jeff Bezos may have revolutionized online shopping, but the allure of a sit-down restaurant experience eludes him. This shift in focus has become a survival strategy for malls, with many emulating malls such as the Square One model to stay relevant and attract patrons. It’s a testament to the enduring appeal of in-person experiences and the adaptability of traditional retail spaces in the face of digital disruption.

It brings together different types of food places, like cozy bakeries, fresh seafood spots, energetic juice bars, and lots of diverse restaurants. Believe me, I did not have the time to count. I will take their word for it. Below are a few restaurants that caught my eye.

Read moreI can see the concept they were going for similar to Chef's Assembly Hall in Toronto it brings a new addition of shopping exclusivity which I appreciate to expose consumers to new companies and support the small business or discover new products. I do find the space was rushed in terms of design and sort of cramped the whole middle aisle should have been just for seating. In fact Holt Renfrew should be closed seeing as no one is ever in there and they should have constructed it in that area instead as there would have been more than enough space. The vendors are ranging in everything from delectable desserts to mouth watering quick bites or nostalgic candies. It should be seasonally appropriate though for example one's like soups during the warmer season not suitable and as for cafe's and tea there's enough option for that in the mall itself. Seeing as retail is suffering this new selection of food eateries and local artisan shops bring more traffic because people are more interested in unique purchases especially ideal to come here for gift shopping and food will always be in high demand. It's fresh and fun idea but the fish place smells horrible and should be replaced. I've tried the rosemary and sea salt bagel a must have $4.50, one of the box donuts a rose and pistachio one not much a fan of that, 6 of the bourgeois's those are to die for, and a plancha dish of quinoa and chicken that was...
