Amazing doesn't describe it enough! My wife and I walked out of there asking ourselves "do you remember the last time we had a great meal like that?". This was our first time having Peruvian food and our first experience was fantastic. The restaurant is a small one only seating 12-14 and is walk up counter. The owners were very helpful and suggested dishes that do not disappoint. We had the empanadas as an appetizer followed by the Tilapia Ceviche and the deep fried seafood platter for our main. The empanadas were out of this world. I've had my share of empanadas, but this hands down is my favourite. The Ceviche was so fresh tasting and the right amount of tang. The seafood platter was a medley of squid and fish. Both very very good and the presentation was excellent. We didn't want the meal to end. The owner and chef even came out to ask us how we enjoyed the food, which is always a nice touch. These days folks like us are looking for more personal touches and relationships with restaurants. The chef also sensed our satisfaction and followed up with a really nice dessert (on the house) which I can only describe as 'out of this world'. It was a shortbread cookie with dulce de leche sandwiched. If there was pieces of feedback I would give, I think you should have a menu that shows off the beautiful food for first timers and the other piece of feedback... Don't change a thing, the food, the service and intimacy of your place is perfect. Thanks for the great first time experience at...
Read moreThis was the best empanada I've ever had.
My good friend and I tried the Lobo Saltado, fried seafood mix and seafood ceviche.
The ceviche had a strong lime flavour that overpowered the rest of the dish and I thought the beef being served with both French fries and rice was a bit too carby. However, everything else was fantastic and perfectly seasoned.
I wish the restaurant was bigger and had more space between tables but perhaps that will come in time as they're certainly popular enough! The tight space actually led to more conversation between patrons and when we overheard a fellow guest's enthusiasm for a special drink she had in Peru, we were able to learn more and try it.
The biggest gold star was for service. The server struck a great balance between anticipating our needs without being intrusive. There were several times when she provided a small sample for us to try when she heard us express interest in it. She's a great ambassador for the Peruvian cuisine and for the restaurant.
We also tried Inca Kola (cream soda), and Maracuya Sour (alcoholic drink with passionfruit). It was steeply priced at $15 but honestly, we're not dripping in passionfruit in Ontario so it's logically priced and fun to try something so exotic and delicious.
The patrons were a mix of Peruvians and people who are interested in trying the cuisine, which I hope heralds great success for the restaurant. It is a...
Read moreI wish I had photos to show how delicious the food was! I grew up in Peru so finding authentic restaurants brings me so much joy! We’ve tried the lomo saltado a couple of times, and there’s a reason! So good! The beef they use is top tier and the flavour is perfect. Third time ordering I finally got to try the ceviche and I had to do a little dance. It was perfect! Right amount of citrus, salt, flavour, spice, and portion. Already craving it as I write this. They offer cancha as extra so that’s a huge plus! Perfectly salted and great portion! The arroz chaufa is so close to perfect, I’ve never come across a place that does it like the homeland but it was definitely good! I personally don’t like certain cheeses so not a big fan of how the ají de gallina was done, my family uses queso fresco or the local cheese from our native town. But my boyfriend liked it so definitely depends on preference. Overall the food is amazing and it’s now one of our go to’s. Can’t wait to try more from the menu and see what else gets added.
As for the service, it’s always been my boyfriend that picks up but each time he says how nice the lady is and how much she reminds him of my mom. So definitely a welcoming and family...
