The bagels are Five stars. The cashier service is Zero. After today, we won’t be coming back.
Every time we went to get bagels before covid, we would have to put up with the young lady that always made us wait while she was texting behind the cash register. She also complained loudly when we asked her once to cut the bagels, which we gave extra tip for. She also made an extremely inappropriate comment to my Chinese girlfriend regarding her race.
After covid, we hoped that maybe things would have changed, but unfortunately they haven’t. We went to get bagels and it was a hassle ordering. She was saying they didn’t have sesame bagels in a bagel shop. Didn’t even ask the guy in the bakery. After she got tired that we were discussing what to get instead, she finally asked the guy behind if he could get us sesame bagels. He didn’t even hesitate and started packing some, since, you know, it’s a bagel shop.
It shouldn’t be this hard to order bagels in a bagel shop.
Only go if you like bagels and don’t mind having someone who hates her job giving you the minimum definition of service and if you want to feel bad about ordering food in...
Read moreI have tried the "named" places in Mile End and was disappointed by the lack of freshness and feeling rushed so they can serve the next number in line.
Trou's bagels are fresh. The team working there are totally amazingly friendly and welcoming.
They also have incredibly tasty coffees. A friend who fashions himself as a coffee snob, loved the cafe latte.
They are located a block from Notre Dame and Rue des Seigneurs in the Griffintown area of Montreal.
Worth checking them out.
Update - I recently stopped by Le Trou for a lunch sandwich. Incredible. You choose the bagels - I recommend cinnamon raisin. They add the mayo, lettuce, tomato, turkey meat and cheese. I am getting hungry for another one as I write this. So head over to Le Trou if you are in little burgundy or Griffintown and want a great sandwich.
Update I am in Montréal for a quick visit. My must do stop is Le Trou. It was better than I remembered. Breakfast sandwich on a Cinamon raisin bagel is hands down the best anywhere in the world. Even the coffee was amazing. You...
Read moreIt’s always so satisfying to eat a fresh bagel. It’s even more so when the staff are welcoming, nice and helpful. The staff saw I was taking photos and told me to take my time and even offered to come behind the counter in order to have close shots of the oven and bagel. Their bagels are of good quality. Fresh, they have a good consistency and nice and soft. Good quality bagels. If you buy some for home, bag them or freeze them early because they dry up quite fast. They also take credit cards. Even Apple Pay. For all you bagel fans, you know that many well established bagel shops in town only take cash. Which is very inconvenient for a person like me who rarely carry cash around anymore. The decor is nice and modern and they have a very artistic wall. They don’t have many tables but at least they do. They have a counter by the window where you can eat and have a drink. All in all, a nice place.
