Initially I had found the cafe’s original location on Prince Arthur because I was looking for a cake for my grandmother’s birthday but I never got the chance to order one from the White Heron.

With a closer one opening in Griffintown, I have taken every opportunity to visit. Their Kurogoma (black sesame) latte and matcha dark chocolate are amazing! Unfortunately I haven’t tried their coffees yet as I’m more of a tea person. The cakes and drinks are quite pricey for the size in my opinion but I could never resist getting a slice of cake. My goal is to try every cake they make! The vegan donuts are a bit dry but they I respect the fact that they are trying to cater a dietary need. Ultimately I hope one day there will be a cake promotion because I’d be there in an instant! Or if there was a cake point card like there is for coffee, it’d feel better about the price.

As for the service, the baristas working there have all been friendly and helpful with suggestions when I’m indecisive. They carefully explain to you what you’re drinking or eating as well. The cafe itself has a clean white theme and it’s very calming. It does get very busy on the weekends so you may need to wait a bit for your coffee. Another thing is that they close at 4pm everyday so I can never make it to the cafe after work if I wanted to. I wish they would have some days where they are open...

Coffee is really good but the portion is tiiiiny. The glasses are already shorter than other cafes if you order an ice drink, plus 1/3 of it would be ice, so you are really not getting much. Friends felt the same way too. It's pretty pricey if considering the size. The quality of coffee doesn't compensate THAT much for the way-smaller size comparing to some other cafes that offer same tier quality in the area. Though it's quieter than those ones for now because it's very new. Maybe the size and glass is intentionally designed to be small as part of the branding for creating the prestige and minimalist 3rd wave image, cuz rich Griffintown people just buy into that. Maybe it's just me who can't not notice the difference in serving size cuz I'm cheap lol. I wish I could say it's the best cafe here but Agh! "Size matters" for...

Finally got the opportunity to try White Heron Coffee after they moved! First the all the vibe was amazing! Very aesthetic, quite enough to do some work or have a small chat! Now the food, the ube donut was delicious (not too sweet)! I had a sakura matcha, I did not like the sakura (tasted like medicine) but I tried the matcha first before mixing and it was good. I’m not big on matcha but I felt like venturing today. Definitely coming back for some coffee and cake! Update: Came back for some coffee and cake, it was delicious! The strawberry shortcake is very light and tasty. My iced latte was nice and refreshing. This place might become my go to...

Best latte in Montreal. They use Ethiopian beans (which I prefer) on regular and have another bean type on rotation. Very balanced taste, doesn't leave you dehydrated or heartburned. The cakes and pastries are made on the spot and are always fresh. Note that they are Japanese style, so low sugar; don't expect an American diabetes experience. The service is very friendly and they always insist on bringing the food to the table. They have loyalty cards which is a pleasant addition for those who come here often. Coffee beans available for sale. The cafƩ itself is light, spacious, airy and clean. A pleasant experience to sit in overall.
