Looked good on paper, but was quite ordinary, not to say bland. I got there Friday for lunch. Very chaotic and unprofessional from the start. The restaurant looked good and empty, the lady in front of the house cannot multitask. Waited at least 5 minutes in the entrance while she was processing a take out order...Finally, I got a table on the front patio and fortunately I did check the menu beforehand so I ordered right away mentioning that I was starving and had 1 hour for lunch. Got a glass of water pretty fast, could not place my order as I had to wait for that completely disorganized front of house lady to place my order. and 15 minutes in I get a glass of wine. Then waited another 30 minutes for the crèpe. It looks like you get better service if you order to take out, as I saw a group of people that arrived after me leaving before I even got my food. The Petite Bourgogne was a savory crèpe consisting of sliced apple with the skin, emmental cheese, lots of fresh baby spinach, bacon, a sort of sauce (not a bechamel) with onions in it. The whole thing was pretty boring looking and bland. The apples were slightly cooked so the skin is irrelevant and impossible to eat. chunky cubes would be nice. The spinach, even if there was plenty, was clean but had too many stems, just taken out of a bag. A blue cheese would have added much needed punch and ditch the bacon for pancetta or anything other fancy cured french ham of sort. $29 including a glass of decent Sauvignon blanc, tx and tip. This was a cheap deal but...

I've been here several times and visited again on Saturday afternoon. The good: the crepes were delicious. The menu is extensive and all crepes are named after Montreal neighbourhoods. The crepe is perfect in texture and taste, both the mushroom crepe and the carmelized apple one were great and even better with the addition of a sunny side up egg. The bad: Place was a bit of a safety hazard with missing or broken floor vent covers where you could easily trip. My girlfriend's chair leg was sitting just within a broken cover that could've caused harm if I hadn't noticed it. Also we were sitting beside the door to the basement which was opened multiple times throughout our meal and left open, causing a terrible cold draught which really chilled the ambience. I had to close it myself about 5 times, even after mentioning it to the server. The ugly: We were offered dessert then when we went to order a sweet crepe, the cook informed the waitstaff that they wouldn't make it as they were near closing. What ensued was a very long and unprofessional argument amongst the employees about whether they should make our order. Another couple actually walked out without paying for their coffees. Our server was advocating for us, but the whole situation was so absurd and a buzz kill that I hesitate to return despite the killer crepes.

My advice to the owner: sort out your employees before the place goes to hell. And fix the damn vents before someone...

I would like to start off by saying that we have came multiple occasions to this restaurant and we have had great meals and moments but sadly, the last time we went, we both were very disappointed and got sick for the rest of the day.

Myself and a lady got two crepes and they were suggestions from our waiter which I always like to do. However when I got my dish, I was kinda shocked at the amount of sauce they had put on it. Personally, I like a lot of sauce but this dish had a very very very sweet sauce that just destroyed the entire plate. Nothing I was eating had any flavour due to the overpowering taste of their sauce.

I ate a few bites and told the waiter it was really upsetting my stomach and I could not eat this. The lady with me had the same reaction. The waitress acknowledged that we had a point and left.

So at this moment, we both are upset and one of us didn't even eat his dish and was left hungry. To my surprise the waiter did not even take into consideration our bad experience, food and the situation as a whole. We got billed the total amount. I tipped 15% regardless being a nice person but, we won't be coming back to this place. I find it greedy that the restaurant rather have their 10$ + tip over a recurring customer.

As a side note, we both felt really sick the whole day and could not proceed to eat anything else until the late evening where my lady tried to make herself barf in order to settle her stomach. Very...

Bottom line: food sounded good, but the combination of terribly slow service and frustrated server lead us to canceling our orders and leaving. Gluten line: they had plenty of great brunch options we were sad we never got to try. Long story: my wife being celiac, I was excited to find a place that served brunch type foods during our trip in Montreal. When we arrived they were quick to seat us and we sat in the back inside area as the outdoor back area was under the potent sun. With our broken french we ordered from our server who was noticeably in a bad mood and appeared frustrated with the amount of people as she was the only one there other than the hostess. We got our drinks after 20 minutes and asking or them once more. 20 minutes after that we noticed another party getting served their food and us not having been approached at all seemed strange, so we tried asking. Our server, still apparently very frustrated, brushed our questions aside and just said "yes yes, food soon." 20 minutes later, again not having been approached at all or even having our water refilled or asked for another drink, we left. Not sure why they seemed so surprised and we never even got an explanation or apology for the food. Very disappointing experience but the local looked nice, menu comprehensive, and drink was good. Might benefit from hiring another server and/or cook for weekends.

My boyfriend and I decided to head to breakfast in downtown and we are from the South Shore. The first thing that came into our mind were crêpes! We decided to call Spanel and make a reservation. We also picked up a friend and decided to surprise her as well. The owner is from Switzerland and he is in charge of making the delicious crêpes. They have many flavors, sweet, and salty and other breakfasts. We decided to order a duck confit crêpe, a Nutella crêpe, a small breakfast to share between the 3 of us. It was delicious and their latte was really good as well. All the crêpes are made with Sarasin which is a bit healthier. My friend was really impressed and said that she would bring her friends to try this place out as well. The place is big, but it is always full, I suggest that you reserve or that you call early in order to secure a table. The price was around $55 for 3 people and we were quite full with 2 crêpes, one breakfast. I will definitely go back once I have a sugar craving, this is one of the best place to bring your friends or your date.
