One of the things I always try to do is visit a chippy everywhere I go! I've had them almost everywhere I've been. The best ones tend to besmall but with a large fryer. Brit & Chips was no exception. Tables and seats inside are limited, as space is dedicated to producing delicious meals! We almost passed on the place due to lack of seating. Fortunately, one of the wait staff, Daní informed us that they had plenty of outdoor seating. I was dubious at first as the canopy on the outdoor seating area looked like it was designed for sun, not rain! As we'd brought umbrellas, problem solved! We'd dine seni al fresco under a combination of sun shade and umbrellas. The menu is not fancy, fish in various forms, freshly prepared and served hot. My wife and her niece were reticent about trying the maple syrup battered haddock but her boyfriend, being the adventurous type, ordered it with chips. Daní correctly informed us that while one could tell maple syrup was an ingredient, it wasn't sweet like eating pancakes. The rest of us ordered the cod, in burgundy ale batter. To get us started we had a couple of amazing Québec produced bitter beers and a couple of glasses of house wine. My wife commented that the wine was excellent. The food arrived promptly and the presentation was exactly what one would expect from a British style chippy. 2 pieces of crisp golden brown battered fish with a generous helping of crisp chips! The flavour was amazing for both fish and chips. My niece's boyfriend noted that as Danaí had predicted, the maple syrup in the batter helped enhance the flavour of the fish and definitely did not overpower it. Pricing was what one would expect for a quality fish and chip meal, with wine and domestic beer. All in all, a great meal served by the friendly and attentive Danaí in a convivial atmosphere. Definitely a must visit for a chippy aficionado...

I've been craving fish and chips for 2 months and got disappointed
Edited: (The decoration was kind of nice and British)
The waitress/hostess was forcefully friendly no one seemed to want to be there
the fish portion is TINY for 21$ + Tax plus expected 15% tips!! but fries were loaded, too much compared to the fish portion
In terms of quality and taste, Unfortunately! It was not fish and chips. It was just a soggy fried fish the batter was soggy and fell off as soon as you pick it up, and was also stuck to the paper in the plate, i had to use a fork to get it unstuck, not crispy what so ever! But the taste was nice, the fries were good, but not what you would expect from a fish and chips place, could be better but they were good nonetheless, also Cheap with the sauce, but i guess that makes sense with the small portion of fish, so they also match it with a tiny container of sauce, and you gotta pay extra to get another tiny sauce, like its not already enough that youre over paying for the small fish
The place was Empty, there was only 2 couples besides us that were already served, so they could not use the excuse of having a rush, so my plate must have been as good as it could get!
Definitely not going back, and no, i do not recommend
I can assure you, your restaurant wouldn't be this empty on a Saturday night like that if your prices/portion/quality was better
You could try to do better though
Finally, the reviews that say "great food and 5 stars" probably never had a good fish and chips,...
Read moreWe arrived on a Tuesday evening around 7 pm, and there were plenty of tables available, it not too busy. This is not a new, hip, or fancy restaurant but more than one person had recommended it to us and we are fans of the genre. We were waved in to find the seat of our choice, and we sat near the back at a table for 2.
We enjoyed the classic beer battered cod and chips served on a newspaper themed lined basket in classic British style. The gal who took our order was helpful, with very friendly and accommodating service even though we spoke little french, she kindly gave us suggestions in English. They also offered other variants of the classic fish and chips on the menu, including a maple syrup batter and a stout batter, as well as other fish like salmon and haddock, all fried in classic English style. A little piece of Britain right here in Montreal! I was tempted to order the popcorn shrimp but she said we'd ordered enough food unless we were really hungry, and we weren't. Her advice was good, any more than the two orders of fish and chips would have been too much for us.
My son and I both enjoyed dinner, and much to my delight they offer a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a Cadbury flake in it for dessert, not quite the same but reminiscent of, or something like the "99" I fondly remember ordering in Belfast years ago, even though the original is typically a soft serve cone with the Cadbury flake stuck in the top of it. This still...
