The reviews for this place are super mixed, so if you’re looking for an honest review, here it is!

They have tons of vegetarian options, and any meat dishes were offered in fish, lamb or chicken! The butter chicken- Was smooth, spiced perfectly and offered a good amount of protein for the price. I personally like a little bit more spice, but was good for the others at my table who couldn’t handle spice! A “died down” version of butter chicken that still packs a punch.

Chicken Tikka Masala- Decadent, well seasoned curry. There was a good amount of chicken for its price, this wasn’t a crowd favourite but still a good dish the table somewhat enjoyed. Though there was nothing wrong with it exactly, just when compared to other tikka masala’s it doesn’t stand out.

Other dishes such as Aloo Gobi (cauliflower and potato curry), the chicken tikka, and all of the appetizers were good and frankly very delicious, but nothing Noteable to write about them.

The naan and rice were both good, steamy and fluffy, you can’t go wrong with them! The rice had many components like peas and extra seasonings, which was super tasty, but we just wish a regular white rice option was clearly made available. The garlic naan was delicious, and i recommend it over the regular! Only complaint i have about the rice and naan is that they both must be ordered as side dishes, upping the cost.

The desserts were fine, the flan cake was tasty but maybe if we return we probably won’t have it again. Though it was tasty, had an eggy smooth taste, only order it if you’re a big flan lover. The donuts were good, but 6$ for 2 tiny donut balls smaller than Timbits was a little much.

The staff was kind, service was FAST, and the atmosphere of this place is incredible, you couldn’t even guess it was an Indian place.

-Overall, this restaurant is great for those new to Indian food. If you’re looking for authentic, spicy Indian cuisine, this wouldn’t be the place i recommend. But- that doesn’t mean we left dissatisfied. None of the food we had here was disappointing, all of it was tasty and nobody left hungry. Would i come here again?- Yeah, but i would only really order the butter chicken and garlic naan, avoid any other dish I’ve already tried, and explore the menu a bit more. This place is great to come to 1-2 times, perhaps with family or co workers, but anymore i would...

Literally the worst experience I have ever had, at any restaurant, let alone a higher-end, fancy establishment in Old Montreal.

We went to le 409 for a celebratory meal, expecting a memorable experience. Well memorable it was, but for all of the wrong reasons!

So, the waitress takes down our order for starters, and we tell her that we will be ordering mains later. Half an hour passes, no food. The server comes back and says "it won't be long". Another 20 minutes pass, and still no food...then the manager comes and says "it wont be long"....Another 20 minutes pass and finally, after over an HOUR, our APPETIZERS arrive (half an hour before the resto closes).

But the best part? We receive something we didn't even order! When we mentioned this to the server, her response was "oh the kitchen ran out of what you ordered, so we gave you what we have instead" Erm, excuse me?! Why even bother to take our order then, just give us whatever you have! Make it a surprise!

At no point did our original server, nor the manager come to explain the situation to us. Instead the manager just said "I'm just going to MAKE YOU pay for the drinks, the rest is on us". Listen, we didn't come for free food, we came for a nice meal! Her nonchalant approach and lack of empathy just showed how lacking in basic customer service skills their staff are. What a joke. We get that food runs out in the kitchen, but we dont get why we were not informed, nor why it took over an hour to get appetizers.

The prices they charge do not at all reflect the service they provide. Way overpriced Indian food, and way low quality service. Unfortunately we did not get to try any other dishes to be able to comment on the quality of their food. Inexperienced, incompetent staff and overall ignominy.

Wouldn't ever give them a second chance, there are a million other restaurants in Montreal who appreciate and respect their patrons.

They completely ruined our evening and...

My wife and I recently enjoyed an incredible dinner at Le 409, an elegant Indian restaurant in Montreal. We had a dinner reservation and were excited to explore their menu, which did not disappoint.

The ambiance at Le 409 is sophisticated yet warm, blending modern décor with traditional Indian accents. The dim lighting and vibrant colors created a cozy atmosphere, perfect for an intimate dinner. The service was equally impressive, with our server Benjamin providing excellent recommendations and ensuring our dining experience was seamless.

For starters to share, we ordered the CHANA SAMOSA—a pastry stuffed with potatoes and spices, topped with chickpea masala. It was so delicious that we immediately ordered another round! The flavors were bold and perfectly balanced, a fantastic way to begin our meal.

For our entrée, we opted for family-style sharing and indulged in several flavorful dishes:

BUTTER CHICKEN: Tender marinated chicken cubes in a creamy tomato sauce infused with aromatic spices.

LAMB KORMA: Lamb cubes in a creamy almond and raisin sauce, rich and mildly sweet.

LAMB ROGANJOSH: Lamb cubes cooked in a flavorful curry sauce with yogurt, mint, and spices.

CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA: Chicken cubes in a creamy sauce with onions, tomatoes, and peppers.

To complement these dishes, we ordered two servings each of GARLIC NAAN and PILAU RICE, which were the perfect accompaniments to soak up the rich sauces.

For drinks, we all had Mango Lassi. It was phenomenal – unlike the overly sweet versions we’ve had in the U.S., this one was perfectly balanced, allowing the natural flavors of mango and yogurt to shine through.

Le 409 exceeded our expectations with its exceptional food, inviting ambiance, and top-notch service. This dinner was a true culinary journey, and we can’t...

We recently visited Le 409, a restaurant that presents itself as a high-end Indian dining experience. The ambiance was undeniably top-notch, with a refined, elegant atmosphere and the enticing aroma of various dishes filling the air. The menu was extensive, offering a wide variety of options. However, when it came to the food, I was quite disappointed. The Chicken 65, which is typically a dry appetizer, was much too hard to chew, with a coating that was unnecessarily thick. Surprisingly, it was the best dish we ordered out of everything. The Paneer Saag was bland and lacked seasoning, with no noticeable salt, leaving it flavorless. On a more positive note, the Garlic Naan was quite good. However, the Chicken Madras was a huge letdown—completely off from the traditional flavor. The overpowering use of coconut overwhelmed the dish, making it by far the worst Chicken Madras I’ve tasted. Additionally, the service could use improvement. The waiter took away our dishes after the appetizers but forgot to replace them when the main course arrived. We had to wait and eventually call someone over to assist us, which disrupted the dining experience. For a restaurant that charges premium prices, the quality of both the food and the service needs to match the cost. While the ambiance is first-class, they need to deliver good service and food to justify the high prices.

A friend of mine recommended this place for dinner. Pros: friendly service, nice ambiance and crowd. Amazing barmen! Cons: 1) the restaurant is hard to find (especially if you’re driving) as there is no street sign for this place, only an « 409 » sign on the entrance which is hidden in an alcove, not that evident. 2) they accept dinner reservations for anytime with 15-minutes intervals, BUT they actually have two seatings, one at 6.30pm, and another one at 8.30pm. There’s no mention about it in their website whatsoever. Imagine, you’re having a dinner (it was fine, can’t say the food was bad), and suddenly you’re asked to move somewhere else (not even to another table), because they have to accommodate a group of people for the second seating you’ve never heard about. McDonalds does a better job on this actually lol. Not that fancy at all. 3) very very limited space, they wanted to put tables everywhere so if you’re at the bar, you or your stool will be pushed and kicked by everyone who’s trying to squeeze by. Honestly, how is it safe even from a fire prospective? Apparently the restaurant cannot keep up with the popularity, am not feeling coming back anytime soon.
