I've been a coffee subscriber for four years now, but I've finally cancelled my account. The delivery delays and freshness of beans has been getting steadily worse for some time now, but my last order was finally the catalyst to find a better roaster. I contacted customer service after I noticed it had been ten days since my order was prepared, but the courier still hadn't received it. My contact mentioned that they would send another bag out via rush order, but it still took three days to arrive. When I complained that it was going to be a full two weeks from charge to arrival, and that I shouldn't have had to flag the issue in the first place, I was met with only excuses about 'situations outside our control' namely the postal strikes (?? they use private couriers), the weather (?? it's been one of the mildest winters on record, and no recent storms), and lastly a busy holiday season (?? at this point we are well passed the holiday rush). I was just looking for an 'Oops, we made a mistake!', but instead I received a 'Sorry you're upset, but there was nothing we could possibly have done'. When I asked for a partial refund, they offered 10% off my next order, which is... presumptuous. Today I opened up my rushed replacement order, and... it was two weeks old when they shipped it out! I've since found a new roaster with great product who can ship out fresh beans on time, and even at a...
Read moreI used to go there at least once a week in the past. Despite the fact that it's really noisy, that their music selection is prety much the same everytime (anglo indy music), I enjoyed going there for an hour or two once in a while to see people while working.
So I went there again today to give it a new try. I was surprised to see the lattes now at 4.50$. It's ok, their coffee is good... well, as good as the one you can find at Toi et moi café on the other side of Atwater.... but since café Saint-Henri is closer to my place, I don't mind much. :)
Anyway, there were 2 clients in front of me... 7 minutes later, before I could even place an order, I decided to leave. It all just came back to me while I was waiting: each time I go there, I have the feeling that no one cares about the clients.... specially the ones that stay within the coffee shop. I understand that their goal is to sell coffee, but at the same time, it doesn't cost much to be kind.
Anyway, I'll walk to the Toi et moi café next time (I know there is a new place near the New System Barbecue.... but that place is even worst then the Café...
Read moreCafé Saint-Henri (Notre-Dame) (3632 Notre-Dame St W, Montreal, Quebec H4C 1P5) - this is a pretty spacious establishment, more like a large hall that often feels like a co-working spot with coffee! ☕💻
There's plenty of room here with lots of tables and chairs, especially convenient seating along the windows. It has a working vibe - you'll see many people with their laptops, some working and some just browsing. 🧑💻
The staff is friendly and chatty, always ready to help. 😊 The coffee, in my opinion, isn't the absolute best in Montreal; maybe they could tweak the ingredient ratios a bit. But hey, everyone has their own taste! 😉
They do have pastries, not a huge selection, but they look fresh and tasty. 🥐
Overall, if you need a good place to work on your laptop or just spend an hour or two sipping coffee in a spacious hall, I'd recommend Café Saint-Henri (Notre-Dame). 👍
