I generally don’t believe negative Google reviews are all that effective but I truly regret my experience. When I arrived, it seemed like I had picked a good place because it was quite popular on a Saturday Night around 7:30 PM.
We were promptly seated and we were given the menu. We ordered the homemade yogurt, the bread, the ravioli with the lentils, and a kofte dish.
The ravioli with the lentils came out rather quickly, before the bread and yogurt. It was ok. 5 pieces of ravioli that seemed ordinary. My first choice was Ashak but they ran out.
The bread came, it was 3 little squares smaller than a napkin. It was stale and not warm. Very disappointing, I’ve had free bread that was much more appetizing. The yogurt tasted store bought. I wish there was more bread to complement the yogurt.
The kofte dish wasn’t great. 3 ordinary and small meatballs, some rice, lackluster salad, some spinach.
The waitress didn’t come to check in on us at all. Water wasn’t refilled. Service non existent.
I genuinely felt like this experience was a waste of time and money. I went to La Banquise afterwards to try to cleanse my experience.
I understand that complaining about bread and yogurt is pretty specific, but every point of the evening was disappointing. Not one moment was enjoyable. The only saving grace was the conversation I had with my partner.
I understand that operating a restaurant during a pandemic is hard. I’m sure the restaurant was understaffed. But I wouldn’t come back to this restaurant again.
Portions are small, food quality wasn’t great, service was non existent. I still get upset thinking about this place.
Anthony Bourdain said you need to be able to embrace the risk of a bad meal to find a good meal. I hope that my luck here will set me up for success somewhere else...
Read moreMy partner and I recently ate here. The restaurant was either busier than they expected or understaffed. The server was very polite and obviously trying her best to cope with the over-sized workload, but it still took a little over two and a half hours from the time my partner and I were seated until we paid the bill. The decor in the section we were seated in seemed unfinished and our chairs were uncomfortable to sit in for that long and seemed more suited to a cafeteria than a restaurant of this price.
Our food was okay. I ordered a chicken kabob with vegetables that was served with salad and rice. The chicken was very good, but the rice was quite dry and plain, and the salad was merely some bitter strips of romaine with a light amount of dressing I could barely taste. The rice and salad took up most of the plate, making the meal look bigger by filling it up with cheap, low-labour items. This was perplexing, because the rice that came with my partner's meal was spiced and very good, and the cucumber salad they ordered beforehand was absolutely delicious. I don't know why the cucumber salad or the spiced rice doesn't come with every meal. I could have eaten a gigantic bowl of just the cucumber salad and the chicken.
Overall we were very disappointed. My partner and I don't get the chance to eat at a restaurant this pricey more than once a year usually. In the time it took for us to dine there I could have cooked us a similar or better meal at home for 1/6 of the price, on comfier chairs, in the comfort of our home. By the end we were very eager to leave. Even the tea and dessert were underwhelming, with very little water given to us for the tea and the dessert small and plain. We bought a pie from the supermarket on the way home to make up for...
