Where do I start. For one, I am very surprised about the reviews of this restaurant and how high they are. It is very expensive for what you get, not worth the money at all. For two people table d'hôte (35 or 45 dollars depending on how appetizers you want) they begin the meal with somewhat traditional Korean side dishes like spicy cabbage salad, kimchi cucumbers (or variation of it) but for two people you literally get 2 half size cucumber slices (no joke), a few strands of cabbage, two cubes of potatoe and a square of cabbage dipped in soy sauce. Like you had to divide strands of cabbage for everyone to get a bite. I feel like it's better not to serve that than serve such absurd size dishes. Then came the apetizers, they couldn't even split it by couple, they put it by three so it gets akward splitting it. You get two dumplings, Sammon with daikon and a piece of chicken that resambles general tao chicken. Finally come the main meal. The dishes are small, barely any rice in bowls. The flavors are good but don't come there hungry, the portions are kinda small. Oddly enough the restaurant doesn't even have some signature Korean dishes, no kimchi offered with the meal. The waiters were very curtious, friendly and helpful. The kitchen service was quite slow considering most of these dishes are precooked. Food was over priced and not worth it. On another note, the place was so warm and jam packed with people. I understand the maximization happening but wow it's way too many people in one small space. The whole bar counter was packed wish dirrty dishes, it was just making it everything seem even that more chaotic. It needs to improve to reach the rating it has. It's trying to be fancy byow but that's about it. I would not go back. 120 dollars for not much average food.
Update: just a quick comment to answer the reply on one important point. When I compared a dish to Chinese or Japanese food, this was only to allow the reader of the comment to understand the closest comparison that he/she/they/it might be more familiar with and not to offend or it be demeaning in any way to Korean food (!!!). This was for purpose of understanding only. I am very familiar with Korean food, eaten it in Korean homes many times. I stand...
Read moreWe got takeout last night based on great customer reviews. Not sure what happened, maybe we didn’t get lucky. But the experience with our takeout was as so: I got bulgogi bipimbap which had barely any beef at all, no egg (I would of thought for 26.5$ it would have egg), and very little sauce. It tastes like vegetables, and the rare pieces of beef didn’t had any taste of their own. I would compare it to a Korean grocery store bulgogi but with better Quality vegetables and more variety of them. The price is twice of other Korean restaurants (at least the one we like which we won’t mention here). For what we got, the price should of been 12$ or so (still should of had an egg). Our other dish was pork bbq, which did have lots of flavor and was a strong dish. I still think the price of the pork dish is too high compared to other Korean options in town but the pork bbq dish did taste good. Total price for two dishes: 55$
So we would of liked it, but the beef bulgogi Was such an unbelievable waste of money that it’s hard to want to go back. We can use the same 55$ to get 3 dishes elsewhere that we think have more flavor.
Perhaps we got not lucky, as I see a lot of good reviews, but I can only share our...
Read moreLOVE LUNA!! I went to this little place for my birthday and it did not disappoint. Everything I put in my mouth was delicious AND it's a BYOB. I will be back many times, for sure. Service was impeccable and quick, almost too quick! I like to linger a bit after my amuse bouches and take in my surroundings before diving into my main meal, but I'm a bit of a savage and will demolish my entire meal without hardly taking a minute to breathe, so.. That's on me. I got the Japchae with pork and Mr.B got the Bibimbap, also with pork. Although I loved mine, I was jealous of his. The Bibimbap arrives in a hot bowl on a wooden plank and it stays hot for a long time!! Like, I was done devouring mine and his was still hot when I finished it off for him! Impressive. I will order that next time. Maybe with beef. LOVE the all black atmosphere, this was the reason I picked this place, honestly, but it did look nicer online than in person. Still very goth and intimate, don't get me wrong, but it lacked something to add more sparkle. Maybe just some candles? It's also possibly more magical if you sit deeper within the darkness; I was sitting right next to the giant garage door sized window. My new favourite...
