I had been planning to go to this Montreal renown Italian pastry since 2019, when I had tried, I believe it was theirs, Sfogliatella. It’s unfortunately how COVID affects our shopping experience by making a line and having to respect a maximum capacity etc. Because if not, going in with many others and hearing the loud noise of everyone speaking in maybe Italian and looking around etc. would have made one to feel they are in Italy. One thing that I maybe noticed and found not the best, was people who arrived for pick up. They had ordered online or on the phone, seemingly, and so upon arrival, they would just go in to pick up their orders. As the maximum capacity was to be four people inside the store due COVID restrictions, people were waiting in a line. However, the picking-up people would just go inside, which would make people outside to wait longer in the cold. I’m not sure how it makes sense to not do the line just because one has ordered online. I was waiting and three people arrived, and not at the same time. Naturally, they would just go in to pick up their orders. Which made everyone else to wait longer for their turn, outside, in the cold. Store manager might want to think about this, because older adults are not particularly phone or internet savvy, so instead, they prefer to go in person, but waiting in line to do their pastry shopping in the cold, while these other people just jump in and cut the line to pick up their orders might not be the fairest protocol. As for me, I was finally reunited with my beloved Sfogliatella. Obviously they are delicious, however, this time around, they had used lard on top of the pastry for the crispy look and texture. I have eaten pastry and food with lard before, so I’m not sure what could be the reason, but unfortunately they tasted like animal. It tastes like you are eating not so fresh bacon or pig fat. I wish there was a choice with butter or maybe another type of lard? I’m not an expert, and I wanted to have the same perfect experience I had in the festival, but something didn’t’t work with these Sfogliatelle, and I am pretty sure it is the taste of the lard. Despite this, I will not stop going...
Read moreOne of those sweet spots in Little Italy .
The owner is charming , kind and helpful. She knows her products and can definitely give great recommendations.
Cronuts are absolutely a must here as it is one of the few places in this city that offers it. There are also baked goods and sandwiches that one could try. To me , everything seems delicious and fresh.
I am surprised by other reviews ... her products are definitely fresh—one would be surprised by the amount of clientele she has throughout the day resulting for her to be constantly in the back baking new goodies even at 4pm.
Overall , I’ll give this place 5 stars as it is one of the few places open on Monday in this neighbourhood , parking is amply available , the owner is fantastic and I couldn’t find anything bad to say about my experience here . I actually am jealous...
Read moreGood Lord the cannolis are awful. Sickly sweet, no vanilla or pastry flavor, and I'm sure the filling contains a hefty dose of edible oil product like all the whipped topped items. Only thing going for themtis the satisfying crunch. Cronut body is alright but very greasy and the oily topping makes it feel even heavier without being satisfying. Cornettas are alright so far by comparison but, again rather bland and topped with commercial Nutella and a ton of tasteless powdered sugar, hopefully the marmalade ones are better. Not impressed in the least, especially after the incredible cannolis at Boulangerie Patisserie Lassale R.D.P. Even less impressed by the cost considering the quality. Almost tastes like grocery store bottom...
