Spend your hard earned dollars elsewhere. This place had awesome vibes and phenomenal decor. From floor to ceiling are breathtaking views. Its clear that a very talented designer assembled the space. However, that's about all the nice things I have to say about this place. We went on a sunday night and were 1 of 5 tables having service that night. We were seated uncomfortably at the edge of the dining area on a cramped lobsided table which we quickly figured out was stuffed outside wedged between two old buildings underneath a glass terrace. It was around 7pm, and was actually quite chilly by the time we left, and it was a really nice Summer day. It seemed like the staff at this place outnumbered the guests at least 3:1 on this particular night.
We ordered some cocktails, flatbread with an eggplant hummus-like dip, and black tobiko tuna tartare as starters, and had their octopus dish as the main entree. Overall, the food was only alright and definitely not worth the $250 we ended up spending there, especially since their tartare was $30 and was advertised with black tobiko, which was convienently missing. When questioned about it, the server said that the black tobiko was on backorder, and that they would comp that dish. He returned moments later telling us that instead of comping the dish, they would give us a free dessert. I was really disappointed with this, as I know very well that black tobiko is the most exotic and expensive ingredient in the dish. We certainly wouldn't have ordered this knowing that the star of the show was never coming. I generally have no problem spending at upscale restaurants, but this one really irked me. For mediocre food and sub-par service you can do a lot better elsewhere. Many places will gouge your wallet, but it seems to me that they only want a very particular customer: rich and stupid. Maybe if they spent less money on employees and put a bit more work into service and their kitchen, they might start seeing ounces of success. As is, I feel borderline robbed. Like I was held up by pirates.
After dinner, we took a look at the rest of their space; an NFT lounge and a gypsy art market. Both of which fit the the theme of the restaurant: pretentious and overpriced. If you are looking for a really cool space to grab an expensive cocktail, this might be the spot for you. If you are looking for a dining experience and good culinary practice, this is not. Overall ratings: Ambiance 8/10 Food 2/10 Service 3/10 Value 1/10 Experience 2.2/10 Verdict: I will not be returning or recommending this place to anyone. This place opened in 2020 and I will be shocked if this is still here in 6 months. Light your money on fire instead of coming here: you will have a...
Read moreBazart used to be one of my favourite mediterranean restaurant back when it opened in 2021. Today, I wouldn’t be able to place it in my top 5 in Montreal.
My most recent experience there left a sour taste of disappointment due to the long wait time for service, disparity of service between waiters and the poor food quality/presentation.
The table next to us got greeted, guided through the experience and had each dish composition explained. Our waiter simply dropped the plates on the table and left.
The burrata came with an uncut tomato. Just the whole vegetable with the cheese on top and sauce at the bottom of the plate. No effort to make slices or present it in the way that it was displayed on the menu. Note this plate doesn’t include croutons and we had to order the bread separately which usually is complementary at any decent restaurant. — $28.00 + $13.00
The ravioli were great and honestly the one thing I really enjoyed that evening. They had a rich cheese flavour which was complimented by the butter reduction. The presentation was proper, which was appreciated. — $32.00
The octopus was not properly marinated/seasoned and cold. Most of the flavour was just char from the grill which is far from the usually fresh taste I get when ordering this plate. — $67.00
The lamb chops were to be cooked medium-rare but came out well done and cold as well. While the sauce and seasoning of that dish were well measured, the lack of precision in the cooking and the fact the meat arrived cold made me regret ordering that plate. —$80.00
I thought I would impress by inviting my date at Bazart but I felt like a fool burning money on a subpar experience. While I could’ve returned the main dishes to the kitchen, after waiting 30m to receive our plates, we were too hungry to wait even longer. In hindsight, there are restaurants that offer much better service and food for a fraction of the price and I couldn’t in good faith recommend Bazart anymore. The slow service and degradation of food quality is obvious because I’ve been a customer for a long time. Note they now tolerate people being obnoxiously loud which wasn’t the case before and though they mention the place is 18+ after 9pm, some children/teens were...
Read moreWhere to begin… Disclaimer; I have never written a review before but I feel compelled to do so because Bazart has been the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever encountered in Montreal. To begin, myself and 5 others arrive and we are seated at a large table of 10 people, where I cannot see the person at the end of the table. We kindly asked the maître D to seat us at a table of 6 and his response was “Get up” and bolted to our next table without making sure we were following him. Once seated, we decided to order cocktails, only to find out that you cannot have cocktails in the dinning area and only in the lounge… We had to order basic drinks that were made with low grade alcohol. Now, for the food, if you can call it that because it was definitely not edible. We started off with an assortment of dips and bread; the portions of the dips were the size of a toddlers palm for the price of $13 each. As for the bread, it was paper thin for the same price. We also got “bluefin” tuna tartare that was soggy and had nerves still hanging out of some pieces. And a fatouch salad, which had peppers and dried cranberries inside which is nowhere near what is supposed to be inside a fatouch salad. As for the mains, after our waiter came to retrieve our plates for the appetizers, he asked if we wanted the bill or desert, without realizing that he hadn’t brought us our main dishes yet. Not only did he not put in our order for the mains, he never once came to ask us how our meal was going. Might I add, this was at 11 pm and our reservation was at 9 pm. We ordered the dorado fish and octopus. First off, the fish was the size of a goldfish and was not fresh AT ALL. It was a white fish slapped on a plate and that is all. The octopus was over cooked, marinated in maple syrup, which you do not have to be a chef to know that maple syrup is the LAST thing you put on octopus, keep it simple and citrusy. It was on a bed of cold pearl couscous. I strongly do not recommend wasting your time and money going to this place. Especially after the hard times we’ve been through during this pandemic, I would much rather go to a place that is much more deserving of my time and money.
P.S. the one star is for decor...
