I used to come here all the time whenever I come down from Toronto but what happened last Friday was very disappointing! The uncle running the restaurant cheated us by charging us 20 dollars over the bill which I had calculated prior to paying was 78.25 he charged us 97.80! When I confronted him he claimed it was tax which was false. I have never been charged tax here as it is all cash, I have been here at least 10 times in the last 2 months. He did offer to give the 20 dollars back but it wasn’t about the money it was about the principle about the matter!! It was obvious he had wronged me by how quickly he was willing to give up the money after being confronted as he realized he been caught in his deception. I also feel there was some racism involved as he was extremely rude to my black Muslim friend for no reason it did not help how we were perceived as my friend was using his slang saying things like wallahi. I let it go but it is unfortunate as a Hindu I always try to support my own and support other Hindu vegetarian restaurants. I love to support my people and see them win! Seeing this behaviour was extremely disappointing as I always have introduced people to this restaurant and always gave it praise. The Channa bhatura was good as always but I am extremely upset and disappointed that an establishment I had so much respect for would behave in such a dishonest and dishonourable manner. There are other restaurants where you can get great Indian food in Montreal without the unnecessary cheating and disrespect. Do yourselves a favour and steer clear, the Channa bhatura was...
Read moreSometimes I feel like I'm buying soup in Seinfeld with an Indian twist. I'll naively show up way too late asking about Samosas. The proprietor will tell me, in the same sentence, "none left...how many do you want?". I never know how to answer. One night I said "twelve" and he said no but gave me a look as if he was giving me a second guess. I guessed "eight" and he said no again. Shoulda guessed higher. The following week I tried again, pressed my luck with "twelve" only this time he encouraged me to go for twenty. Twenty Samosas is way too much even for a long weekend. I insisted on twelve and he agreed. While waiting, another customer who had phoned in an order and was picking it up inquired about adding Samosas and asked if they had any left. Typical "no..how many do you want?" answer. The guy was courageous enough to ask if there was a discount if he bought a certain amount. Proprietor answered "no, two for 1 dollar" which is an amazing deal for the best Samosas in all of Montreal. The confused patron responded with "I'll take five". He was...
Read moreThis was a couple of years ago but cannot forget this. I was super hungry after a 6hr long drive crossing the US border into Canada. Had my dinner and when I went to pay the auntyji at the counter said she doesnt accept US Credit/Debit Card. I did not have Canadian currency and told her I just got here after a long drive and asked her for the closest ATM to withdraw cash. She said "teek hain, koi baat nahi' and did not take any money! I told her that I was in Canada on work and will be in Montreal for a couple of days and will be back the next day as well. She trusted me and did not ask for a penny. I went the next day for lunch, now had canadian currency with me but this time there was uncleji at the counter. I told him of the kindness of auntiji and paid him for the previous days dinner as well as lunch for that day. Their kindness saved me embarrassment as well as sleeping hungry after a long day. Not to mention the food was good. Ambience...
