This is by far, one of the best Indian / Pakistani food I've ever had. Being an Indian myself, I had the opportunity of eating fine Indian food in Mumbai, NYC, Toronto, Tampa, Los Angeles, etc. When only speaking about the food, it is definitely excellent. The grilled pieces of chicken breast are succulent yet savoury in its thick orange sweet and spicy sauce. The chicken biryani definitely has some heat to it, but when paired with the mint chutney on top of the rice and chicken, it brings back memories of Mumbai's famous biryani at Delhi Darbar (which is a Mumbai famous restaurant since the early 1900s).
To be honest and transparent, the restaurant does need a makeover and the service needs improvement. However, I have built a great relationship with the owner where I am served great food each and every time. I barely do eat at the restaurant so I mostly order my food to go. Though there are some hits and misses, on the days they are hits, they really hit the spot well.
I am impressed with the culinary style of the father who started this restaurant back in the 1980s considering when he is still in the kitchen and the cook, he is a great master chef. On days when he isn't the cook, there could be a possibility of encountering a "miss". As long as Shahi continues to have the main owner as the main cook, this restaurant will continue to thrive in its Indian / Pakistani offerings.
Constructive feedback:
Renovate the restaurant and offer a great customer service. Expand the restaurant towards the Downtown, Montreal proximity to cater towards a larger population and demographic than West Island. Super enhance the marketing.
If these 3 things can be done while only keeping the customer in mind, they will have a high possibility of expanding quickly nationwide.
Thank you to the Shahi Palace family for great memories...
Read moreMy favourite restaurant in the West Island and my favourite Indian restaurant in Montreal. I've been coming here since at least 2011. I've tried a lot of their dishes and they're all SO delicious. Butter chicken is a go. Palak paneer is really good here also. But the best is their chicken roll. Their chicken rolls are to die for. On my dad's birthday, I asked him what he wanted and he asked for chicken rolls from Shahi Palace. I always make my friends try the chicken roll and they all love it too.
Despite being my favourite place to get food from for the last 8 years, I rarely come here to sit and eat. I always call ahead and take it to go. This place has flaws. It needs renovation. Having been a long time customer, I can see the place deteriorating. It's dirty and old. Service is slow and it isn't the best. It's been the same people since the beginning (family run restaurant) and you can tell they're tired.
I strongly believe that if they get someone to properly manage the restaurant, this place can greatly improve and be a 5 star for everyone. Until then, if you're from the area, place your order ahead and take it for pickup. Their food is consistently amazing and the prices are great. Can't wait to get food...
Read moreI like trying new restaurants with different foods from different nations. This weekend, we tried this Pakistani restaurant. It came recommended by a local, who frequents this place. I guess everyone's tastes are different. We started with two huge vegetable samosas. They were crunchy on the outside and filled with loads of tiny pieces of potato and green peas. A tamarind and mint sauces were provided for dipping. Then we ordered our main dishes. We thought we would have some leftovers, so we ordered three dishes: a chicken sizzler, a beef seekh kebab and chicken balti. It came with a choice of rice or Naan. We chose the Naan. The chicken sizzler was dry and too salty for me. I used the sauces for the samosas to moisten the chicken. The beef seekah kebabs were moist and very nicely spiced. It was served with a small green salad. The chicken balti was delicious but very small for the price. Good thing we ordered 3 mains for 2 people because the portions are small and two would not have been enough. This restaurant deserves another...
