I ordered the 1/2 pound classic -cooked medium, with extra cheddar- because I wanted a simple burger that would let the meat shine for a first time eating there. I also ordered the onion rings.
About the burger: on the board it says the classic has lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles. Alas, it also had a very ketchup-forward sauce on it that I wasn't expecting and certainly wouldn't have selected as a topping. That's pretty much all I could taste, everything except the pickle was overpowered by that sauce. I didn't notice the lettuce or tomato at all, and I thought they'd forgotten the cheese but then I checked and it was there melted in the patty. So it was very thin and the sauce being directly on it, I couldn't taste it. I wonder if maybe I got somebody else's order and the sauce wasn't supposed to be there on the plain classic. If it is supposed to be there it's a very poor choice in my opinion. The meat turned out medium-well, extremely juicy, but it seemed it wasn't seasoned much or even at all, explaining how the sauce could take over the taste so much. That I could taste on its own because there was a bit of the patty with no sauce on it. So although the meat seemed of quality, it was very bland.
About the onion rings: on that too they put ingredients that aren't indicated anywhere I could see: truffle oil and what seemed like an intention of a sprinkling of cotija cheese. Now, I despise and hate truffle oil; it kind of smells like truffle in a cheap way but it doesn't taste anything like the real thing and it's not even made with truffles, it sometimes has some in it but the aroma is still artificial because truffle taste isn't well carried by oil. So it tastes cheap and is useless. Fortunately, there wasn't too much of it, so the rings weren't entirely spoiled. As For the cotija (or whatever it was), there was so little of it that if I hadn't seen it, I would never have noticed it was there. The rings themselves, however, are large and wide and very crispy, which I liked. The downside was that they didn't season them either (no salt when they came out of the fryer I'm pretty sure), so they were very bland before I added salt to them. I still ended up enjoying them.
So to summarize, I was disappointed. Not mentioning some ingredients and not seasoning the food properly are quite rookie mistakes, but easily fixable.
I will probably give it another try, addressing the questions I have and making sure it is prepared to my liking, I have good hope that it can be a great...
Read moreBone dry underseasoned meat patties. Okay. So I have been raving about this place of having one of the best burgers in town. I got my three friends excited so we went their today and they couldn't wait to try QDC on st-viateur.
The burger patty was dry. Really dry.
In fact, their burgers never used to be dry. Now, if it wasn't for all the toppings and dressing that still taste good, this would have made for a very unpleasant burger, as the burger meat itself was also underseasoned. It used to be much tastier. All of my friends that came with me today agree that their burger was also underseasoned and dry.
My friend's mac and cheese was good. But she couldn't understand why she only got 4 onion rings while my other friend received 6 onion rings.
Our fries were too salty and somewhat burnt. One of my friends says it taste like leftover fries. Their fries used to be better than this too.
I also asked for a fois gras to be placed on the side and I specifically said to not put it inside the burger. I went back inside to ask if they had forgotten my fois gras or if it is inside the burger; the guy behind the counter just looked at me with a serious facial expression and stared at me. The hostess said they had put it inside the burger. It was in their, a very small quantity. Not sure if that's supposed to be the portion of the fois gras. In any case I am glad I ordered to at least make up for the dryness of the burger. But the burger was still dry and underseasoned really.
Maybe it's an off day for them.
Previous review some time ago: Staff are very professional and polite. They make great recommendations too. The lefty's burger was very filling I had half of it and was full. Have yet to try the other burgers on the menu. Looking forward to the next time. The meat was of quality seemed fresh. It is expensive but it makes sense for the quality and the size of the burger. They seem quite clean there too. Love love the fries here as...
