I must say up front that the only reason I am not giving this place 5*s is because they only accept cash! While they do have an ATM right in their shop, I feel that after 2ish years of the world embracing cash-free options, not to mention all the business they have at this location, they can afford to offer at least debit as an option!
That said, the bagels here speak for themselves! Believe me when I say that you will never want to have a bagel from a generic coffee shop again after trying out these bagels! We tried the all dressed (read everything) bagel and sesame bagel! The wood oven makes all the difference in taste and how light the bagels are! I loved how the sesame seeds were slightly toasted but the all dressed was fragrant with garlic and onion and toasted seeds and truly won me over!
It should be noted that this is their main location where all their bagels are made. However this is in every way a no-frills location in that they are strictly about the bagels; there are no seats, they do not assemble your bagels to your taste and they only accept cash! That said, they have chillers along one side of the line that have everything you could ever want for your bagels, from various cream cheeses, jams and hummus to actual cold cuts and salmon, making this an amazing stop to stock up for a picnic! They also have a tiny table near the front for you to assemble your bagels before you go, if you wish!
We also bought a dozen each or the sesame and all dressed bagels to bring back to family and friends and they lasted well without any change to the...
Read morehad the pleasure of trying the traditional bagel at St-Viateur Bagel, and I have to say it was incredible! The portion size is very generous â definitely filling enough for a hearty meal. The bagel itself was perfectly baked with that authentic Montreal-style texture: crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and packed with flavor.
The price-performance ratio here is excellent. You get great quality for a very reasonable price, which makes it a must-visit spot for bagel lovers or anyone looking for an authentic Montreal experience.
On my first visit, we waited about 40 minutes in line, which might seem long, but the friendly atmosphere and the smell of fresh bagels baking made the wait enjoyable. We decided to eat inside, and the experience was wonderful â fresh, warm bagels served with great service.
The next day, we wanted to enjoy the same delicious bagels at home, so we ordered via Uber Eats. Even through delivery, the quality and taste didnât disappoint. It was almost as good as eating there!
The staff at St-Viateur Bagel were very kind and helpful during both visits, which made the experience even better. One thing to note: they only accept cash and debit cards, so be prepared for that. Credit cards are not accepted.
Overall, if youâre ever in Montreal, St-Viateur Bagel is an absolute must. Iâm already looking forward to my next visit and canât wait to enjoy these amazing...
Read moreI recently visited St-Viateur Bagel, and unfortunately, my experience was far from what I had hoped for. While the bagels were undeniably delicious, I couldnât overlook the concerning lack of food safety practices I witnessed during my visit.
It was alarming to see that the cooks and prep staff were not wearing proper sanitary gloves or hair nets. They were handling food directly with their bare hands, which is particularly concerning when it comes to high-touch areas like bagels, especially in a food establishment. Several staff members were seen touching various surfaces and then handling the dough and bagels without washing their hands or using gloves. This lack of attention to hygiene made me question the cleanliness and overall safety of the food being prepared.
As a customer, I found this to be quite unsettling, especially considering the importance of food safety in a public kitchen. While the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was warm, the disregard for basic sanitation protocols left me with a bad impression. For a place that has a reputation for its iconic bagels, I was surprised and disappointed to see such carelessness in handling food.
I truly hope this review encourages the management to address these hygiene concerns, as it is crucial for customers to feel confident in the cleanliness and safety of the food theyâre consuming. Until then, Iâm...
