The space itself is nice but the service was trash. I sat at the bar and ordered a single Coors Light draught ($7). As I sat there, a guy came up to pay and the bartender raised her voice as he turned his back to say “YOU LEFT ME NO TIP!”. The guy awkwardly turned back to the bar for her to tell him “in Quebec, it’s custom to tip 15%”. Ok, I get it and personally I always tip 20% but it was off-putting the way she called him out in front of the whole bar and kind of a red flag to me. In the end I realized he probably left no tip because she hadn’t earned it. Anyway, after slowly sipping my beer for 30 minutes she didn’t turn around once to check in on me. I had a $10 bill on the bar in front of me so clearly I was trying to pay. When I finally got her attention she told me the beer was $7 and asked if I wanted change. Inside I was thinking, are you KIDDING ME??? You’re pushing me for more than a 40% tip for pouring me one beer and ignoring me for half an hour? I told her, yes, I’d like change and when she brought it she proceeded to explain to me how I should leave $2 to make it a 15% tip. Not to be cheap, but $1.05 would be a 15% tip, which at this point she didn’t deserve even that. I explained to her that I know how tipping works, left $2, and walked out. I will never return to this business. There are more than enough bars in the neighborhood with better service and better selection that deserve the business. And incase management wants to know which employee I had the pleasure of dealing with, this was on the 5th of July...
Read moreI spent three nights in Montreal and ended up at Les Torches three times. That probably says it all. Once for dinner and twice just to come back for drinks and friendly vibe. The first night, the three of us ordered burgers, I had the double cheese smashburger and it was outstanding. Fresh ingredients, cooked perfectly, and packed with flavour. You can tell they care about quality and consistency. The atmosphere is lively and comfortable without feeling pretentious. It’s the kind of place where you can relax and actually enjoy your meal, whether you’re on your own or with friends. The decor and lighting make it feel modern but still welcoming, and even when the place was full, it never felt chaotic or rushed. What really stood out was the service. Truly some of the best I’ve experienced in a long time. The staff were friendly, attentive, and accommodating, even during the dinner rush. You can feel that they enjoy what they do, and that energy carries through the whole place.
Les Torches is one of those rare spots that gets everything right: great food, great people, and a great vibe. Can’t wait to come back next time I’m in Montreal....
Read moreWhat a surprise this place was. We found it walking around the neighborhood. They have outdoor(spring and summer) and indoor seating. Nice selection of wines, beer, and cocktails. We stuck to a couple of glasses of wine. Food menu is small but delicious. I had the tailgate. It was amazing. It's a hot dog topped with shredded pork and purple cabbage. There's bacon all topped on a hotdog buns. We it first came I didn't think I was going to finish it, but I did. The nachos were really good as well. Nice size, plenty of cheese, black olives, jalapenos, and guacamole. The guacamole tastes freshly made. Menu offered salads, tacos, and a few other bar menu tupe foods. Food was really well presented. The ingredients were all fresh and made to order. It is definitely a few steps above your average bar food. Waiter was really nice and welcoming. Place was packed for a Thursday afternoon but he kept up with everything. I will definitely stop back when in the neighborhood again. Perfect place for lunch and after work drinks and...
