I've been looking for a good Trini restaurant in MTL since moving here and a Trini Coworker referred this place. I think it's pretty good. I've tried a few different Trini food in Toronto and this place is definitely Top 2 on my list. The goat roti with Paratha didn't have the strong pungent smell and taste of goat. It tasted a little bit like beef, but you can tell it's goat. It was soft and tasty. The paratha was also made fresh.
We tried beef and chicken doubles. I preferred the beef because you can taste the meat distinctively. I had it slight pepper with tamarind sauce and it definitely hit the spot. The bara* (I didn't know what it was called, im sorry) of the doubles is not too oily and it's on the thinner side so it wasn't too bloating on the stomach.
I would love to try their aloo pie next time (as this is my actual go-to food with doubles). The staff told me to call her next time for it. I will definitely come back to try the rest...
Read moreThis place is the real deal. There are a few places around here that have Trinidadian food, but are really just "Caribbean restaurants." This place is Trini to its core, with authentic dishes that taste like you're back home. Not only are the owners friendly, but so was every person who walked in while I was there.
I got the red beans and rice, curry pork, doubles (I ordered way more than I should have), pholourie, and bake and salt fish. After I left I regretted not getting a roti and aloo pies to go.
This place is excellent - I can't wait to go back, and I can't sing its praises enough.
ETA: forgot to discuss the price. Lots of Trinidadian restaurants charge ridiculous prices because they know how few options you have when you're craving Trini food. When I got the bill I couldn't believe how reasonable...
Read moreMy mouth is watering just thinking about this place. One of the best traditional Trinidadian restaurants in Montreal, I try to go there each time I'm in the area. My favourites are the vegetarian roti (Chickpea & Potato) and the Shrimp Roti but some of my friends and family prefer the Chicken Roti or Goat Roti. The roti (Dhal Puri) is very soft, thin and filled very well with a savoury and delicious dhal mixture which is rare to find in today's economy as most places are very stingy with their filling.
Make sure whichever roti you get, you get pumpkin and spice if you enjoy hot food (without spice if you don't like spicy food).
The workers are very friendly and this is a family owned business, I suggest everyone tries this place...
