I want to start by saying that the staff is wonderful. The overall experience was underwhelming and I wouldn't call this Japanese fusion. The food presentation is very pretty and attention to detail was appreciated, however here are my quips. We were a group of 5 and we had a chance to try quite a few items. My issue with this place is that they call it "Japanese fusion", however, just because a place uses words like gyoza, udon, and sushi, doesn't mean it tastes Japanese. The food was clearly Chinese-tasting. I love Chinese food and that's why I was disappointed when I thought I was getting japanese fusion. I've had authentic Japanese food (in Tokyo and locally), and this restaurant clearly uses the word fusion as a disguise for Chinese food. Here are the plates we ate: The gyoza: they were dumplings that were not made the way gyoza are usually made. They were soft, not crispy on the outside. The stuffing was very odd-tasting. It wasnt quite meat since the consistency was also very soft. It felt boiled down somehow. The gyoza are clearly just Chinese dumplings. The pizza sushi: it was extremely flat compared to other places that dress it up with toppings. The base was bland and it tasted like something I would make for my grandma who is wary of flavors. The ribs: very flavorful but equally dry. For the price you are paying, you get about 8-10 pieces that are about 1.5 inches big. Some sushi: the sushi tasted good but nothing exceptional as many people claimed it to be. The good thing about the sushi is that they tasted fresh so I wouldn't disvourage anyone from eating the sushi there. Oishii sushi dessert: this was a dessert sushi that was wrapped in rice paper. It has a chocolate rice crispy filling, and fruits. It was very underwhelming in flavor, and just sweet. It didn't really deserve its price. I would have paid 5$ for it, but not double (as I paid). It pretty much tasted like chocolate rice crispies with fruits. The fried ice cream: the fried part was inconsistent and rubbery. It was a struggle getting to the ice cream bc the dough was not fried beautifully, instead it had a rubbery texture and some parts of it were just hard to chew. The ice cream itself was black sesame flavor and it was fairly...
Read moreDo you know Yuukai in japense means Kidnap? It in deed kidnapped my stomachache while we are there and my mind now while I m writing the review. We have ordered all the popular stuff! The most amazed dish is:Mont fuji! Cipse at the bottom, soft at the top which provides the combination for the different texture. All the sushi roles we orders are good, sunshine, special K and Thon deluxe. When we dined in they also have Uni. Hmm yumyum! So fresh However I find the sushi pizza is a bit dry. Service is good and atmosphere is good Best part is: BYOB And price is not toooooo expensive! Very affordable. Friends ordered to go right away to share with her family Will definitely go back again...
Read moreDon't be surprised by their simple menu, they served refined and very fresh cuts of sushi. You can easily miss this small restaurant on Park, highly affordable for the quality but definitely bring your wine when you go! Also, be sure to read the menu on the board on the wall, we missed the omakase option and got miso soups, dragon eye roll, sashimi plate (11px) and the 16 pcx maki plate (6 hosomakis, 5 Rainbow, 5 sunshine). We're excited to come back and be delighted by the chef's omakase.
The service was quick, staff were caring and super nice and helpful in listening to some of...
