We were really looking forward to having a bite to eat here but ended up with terrible service. There was a new gentleman working on a Thursday evening and we completely understood that he needs to learn (absolutely no fault of his own). We ordered chicken fingers and fries, but he came out with only fries. We explained that to him and he went back to the front and looked to be having a discussion with someone at the till. No one came back for 10 minutes. My husband went up to the front and asked the guy at the till what was going on and just ended up asking for the bill and telling him we are going somewhere else. We were hungry after travelling all day and in that time, we should have had our corrected orders almost ready to serve, but they hadn't started yet. No one had come back to our table in that time. What should have happened, is the new guy should have been supervised by having an experienced staff member oversee him and ensure he took down our order correctly and entered it in correctly. It is the responsibility of management to ensure the staff are getting the proper training. We all start somewhere, and I felt really bad for the guy. He shouldn't have to fend for himself. This is 100% on the management team and not the waiter. They left him by himself with no direction and I even got the vibe they were blaming him for screwing up. Not cool, I really hope this gentleman finds a supportive environment to get some proper training. Even if it does take longer than some, we all learn at different paces, and it just didn't seem fair. I could not rate the food because we did not get that far. Note the 1 star for service is 100% on management and not the employee. If I could rate him separate, he would get 5 for trying. He was very nervous but extremely friendly. I hope someone reads this feedback and uses it to educate management on supporting...
Read moreTLDR: Great pub food, great craft brew selection, great service. Jasper is open for business, go visit and give them all your tourist dollars, they're recovering from a really rough year. Brought my sister through Jasper on her first trip to the mountains, which was bittersweet, seeing both the destruction and recovery in the town. We got in town late afternoon and starving. It was early October (last week) and there weren't many restaurants reopened quite yet, and most of those were closed until a more normal dinner time. D'ed dog was open, though, cheerful and cozy, and I'm glad the town made that choice for us, as I'd never been in. The food was perfect, delicious pub fair. I have a sodium restriction and pubs can be tough for me, but a lightly modified game burger and side salad turned out to be just what the doctor ordered, literally ;). Server suggested a citrus vinaigrette which was a genius pairing to balance the weight of the burger. The beer selection was solid too, with a number of local and Canadian microbrews to choose from. I got a D'ed dog red ale with no regrets. And our server was awesome. Super personable and we had a great conversation. He kept a close eye on the table without being intrusive and we were never left waiting for anything, while not rushed. Perfect casual meal. Most impressively, both my sister and I had mods which he didn't write down but still executed perfectly. It may not sound like much, but a good 60-70% of the time my orders get effed up at causal restaurants even when written down, so I'm usually resigned to a sad and anxious experience. (You can extract a pickle but not its salty brine, and sauces are even harder - means I won't get to eat very much). Atmosphere was all standard Jasper, and it felt like every other trip to my favorite...

The 8 ball didn't come out in the pool table when I put my money in and pushed the rack (it happens I know) so i gave the machine mechanism another push or two nothing crazy just a love tap as anyone would, before they asked for help, i had a customer not a staff member, A CUSTOMER say it was time to go. When I asked why, he said his girlfriend was the manager (Not that it's any of his business) but He was very aggressive and actually asked my colleague for a full on physical altercation. Crazy I know but it happened so be aware. Anyway. If his girlfriend was the manager, ( I couldn't care less) then she should of cut him off hours ago. This is a tourist hot spot, not a play ground for you to get free drink because you're banging the staff. Professionally speaking if any person (customer or staff) put there hands on another person, which he did, especially in these uncertain times, its definitely grounds for disciplinary action.
