As I dined here for the second time it was a drastically different experience from the first. Just 3 months prior when I dined here the service was quick, friendly and the food was amazing.
Today, also a Sunday as the first time there were several things wanting. After being seated we had to wait several minutes for our orders to be taken. When our drinks were brought out for the 3 of us, one of our party had a latte delivered and it was at least another 2 minutes until the others of us got our brewed coffee which was sitting on the counter a mere few meters away. When our coffee was delivered the accompanying cream, sugars and stir sticks arrived in our server’s palms, not on a plate of any sort. Our food took a very long to arrive and in the meantime we had finished our coffee and had our empty mugs sitting on the table for over 5 minutes before we flagged down a different employee to assist us. When our food arrived it was only 2 plates ready out of our party of 3, the 3rd arriving a full 5 minutes later, with the accompanying meat being the wrong order. My “real whipped cream” was definitely nothing of the sort and it made me wonder if they had run out of it as they had run out of fresh fruit when we had tried to place our orders. The skillet was done well but the waffles came without a pat of butter. The French toast came without syrup. And our coffee cups sat empty yet again. The server thanked us for our patience and also apologized for the wait. I think I will have to try a third time here because the other reviews have been so glowing but the experience was...
Read moreEver sit down in a restaurant and instantly it throws you back in time to some of your favorite childhood memories? Lou Lou did just that for me today. I ordered a traditional cheeseburger, expecting to wait for a traditional 15 minutes or more for my meal to arrive, yet it came to the table less than 5 minutes later. Usually that would send some red flags. Plus I forgot to mention I don't like condiments on my burger, so was expecting to be somewhat disappointed- not the case at all! Growing up for well over 10 years I would help my grandmother make from scratch hamburger patties that we would then cook and serve at a small town curling rink during Legion Curling Bonspiels, I worked all those weekends for free because the burgers were my favorite and I was always in the great company serving friends, family, and neighbors...that's the memories that were invoked by eating at this restaurant. So thank you. The lineup of bar stools at the counter was much the same as the curling rinks and the modernized mom-and-pop shop atmosphere would suit large groups that include children. Friendly fast service was much appreciated and by the taste of the burger, I can pretty much assume it was handmade, adding just enough salt and pepper to the pattie recipe. An added cool thing about this restaurant is that you can walk in and out with a single slice of pizza as well. At the counter sits freshly made pizzas ready to buy by the slice for those looking for even quicker service than I received...
Read moreLike others I don’t tend to leave bad review, but since this was our last meal of our trip it left us on a sour note.
First, music was so loud we had to ask them twice to turn it down. So loud you couldn’t hear the person next to you. And the music style made us want to leave it was not appropriate dining music.
Decor is gaudy old time, not authentic but cheap and the benches you sit on were like sitting on concrete. They look like old church pews and feel worse.
Donair was flavourless, salted up with sauce to distract from its poor quality, with dried edges that should have NEVER EVER been thought acceptable to serve. Pita was not much better. Easily hands down the worst donair of my life. Ate some of it cause I was starving but left most. Total waste of $$.
Spaghetti appeared to be a meat based sauce. Tasted like canned or bottled sauce, reminds me of Chef Boy Ardee from when I was a kid. Definitely not fresh made and not acceptable for the cost.
French fries tasted like a frozen commercial variety.
Husband says burger was ok, but certainly not the ‘best’ in town.
Don’t see how the place got such good reviews seeing as all three of our orders were either horrible or just meh.
Was so annoyed I didn’t want to even tip, but the service was ok so it would have been unfair to the...
