There is no excuse for this place to be rated 3.8 stars. The atmosphere is nice, the restaurant is wonderful and the food has always been good. At some point the management decided to start filtering out borderline customers according to appearance or their own personal taste.
Jasper is a vacation spot and not a formal town and to discriminate is not only costing you business, but is highly insulting to those who are just trying to relax and enjoy a vacation and a meal. You want a “higher class” clientele? Start by refraining from smarmy replies to past customers. It’s a bad look and you have made a 5 star business into a 3.5 (now 4.1 - good to see) behind many lesser restaurants. Get smart and try to substitute a smile and kindness for your personal judgment and you’ll be the go to place in Jasper.
Update: In fairness, I owe an explanation. They did close for a period of time. Then reopened. Here is my current take. I was a regular at Cassio’s for about 5 years for long 2-3 week stays in town. I see my comment from several years ago mentions a 3.8 comment due to staff behavior and has moved up to 4.1. Honestly, good for you.
I always enjoyed my early breakfasts and looked forward to a day of hiking or biking the local trails. After years of being a loyal customer with 5-6 mornings each week spent there (a total of probably 25-30 breakfasts) and opening the place bright and early, I was abruptly told I couldn’t come in with my hat on. (See other comments who had the same experience). The clothes I wore and that the others mention were casually neat, clean and tidy - not as if we were vagabonds off the street. I mentioned that this had never been a problem in the past and it was always early enough where there were few people there and I would be gone very quickly to get on with my day. I politely asked why this was happening “now” when they knew me from past years and had gotten to know me as a polite, mannerly and pleasant visitor. I got an abrupt, nasty reply that I would have to leave if I didn’t take it off. The interaction was more off putting than the issue at hand. I took my hat off because it wasn’t a big deal. But I never went back due to the rudeness and over reaction directed at me. As a company manager, I live a life of formal dress codes and appropriateness. This was a vacation and the reaction was over the top by the employees.
And for the past 3 years I’ve never gone back. Never will. Reading reviews about people angry about “waiting for tables/service”, playing culinary gods about the very good food and complaining like spoiled tourists assures me that I made the correct decision. The restaurant wanted a “higher standard” and got it. Along with the snarky customers. It's a 5 star place folks if you follow their dress code. They pride themselves on being above the other places in town. I chose the other places. If you like a warm atmosphere and staff, it is the 2-3 stars I gave it based on my experience and apparently others.
It is a great place with the normal snafus that go with running a successful busy business. For those who like that environment, this place is for you. But the reaction for a simple hat as if we are walking in dressed in rags or dirty or smell when we are just like others except maybe with a hat on - for an early breakfast and not even a dinner hour which I can see taking minor issue with - was/is just unnecessary. Treated like we were social outcasts which is ironic given my job that I hope to escape in Jasper only to be told I don’t “fit”. So 4-5 stars for the restaurant and 1-2 stars for employees with reactions to folks who are just looking for a nice relaxing place. As for "the reason for my feedback" simply check the other 1 and 2 star ratings here. There are others who had the same experience as I did. And yes, it was Cassios, Jasper as I have been there many times and I found alternative breakfast places. Maybe it has changed. I wouldn’t know because you lost me for a...
Read moreFood is extremely over rated. I’ve been to Italy many many times and never had food this bad ever. Very heavy handed with garlic even though we had one in our group that asked for very little garlic please the waitress said do you want butter but no garlic butter added and only very small garlic in sauce and she was told yes that would be terrific thankyou but the meal was absolutely drowned in garlic so badly all we could smell was garlic our whole table could just smell garlic to a big degree was hardly eatable. The elderly lady in our dining group who ordered it couldn’t eat it and barely touched it. Bruschetta was a soggy mess and nothing like what we normally get elsewhere either Italy Australia America or Canada, and it certainly wasn’t better by a long shot it was only half eaten and both of our group members only ate half the piece they took. We had enquired about a special eating disorder for one of our members and what they needed and was assured it was find just make sure waitress knows. We did but it was totally ignored and came out wrong when told it couldn’t be eaten she looked saw it was wrong apologised and said she’d change it, we explained you can’t just pick it out you will have to make a new meal but we will wait it’s no problem if we can fix it which she said yes. Not even five mins later (meals had taken 30+ mins to come out at first) it was back and they had picked out the chicken that wasn’t the problem and could have been eaten. The problem was still highly visible in the bowl once the top spaghetti had been lifted or pushed aside, this is extreme that someone with an eating problem allergy etc would be so blatantly ignored in this restaurant. The food was not worthy anyway but to have a serious eating disorder ignored even though it had been calmly discussed with staff before entering and ordering is just not acceptable. The waitress apologised but I feel she shouldn’t have bought the plate out as she knew and it was told directly to her, she knew it was wrong so I would never have taken that to the customer in the first place I would have told the chef no it’s wrong you could kill or make someone extremely sick or have serious repercussions or illness if we serve this. She did remove the charge and didn’t charge for this one wrong meal that couldn’t be eaten. This was nice of her but to little to late. In all she was ok and maybe didn’t worry to much when she should have, but it was serious and she should know people don’t fake medical reasons to not be able to eat certain things and there are serious complications sometimes when you mess with people’s health. I feel the food is nothing I’d be excited about and being around Italians including a chef this would never pass the test. Prices are high but you don’t mind if it’s great. While we were there two other tables also had food issues with plates removed and changed including the next table not happy with meat cooking. So I feel tonight they definitely didn’t have everything going well and I’d never go back or tell...
Read moreI am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with a recent dining experience at your restaurant.
To begin, the food quality was far below expectations. We were under the impression that the restaurant served authentic Italian cuisine, but what we received was more akin to a poorly made, off-brand version of Kraft Dinner. The dishes lacked flavor, freshness, and any sense of culinary professionalism. For the price we paid, the quality was simply unacceptable.
In addition to the disappointing food, the service was equally concerning. Our server, whose name was Jonabella, displayed unprofessional and dismissive behavior. After briefly offering us the dessert menu, we later requested the kids’ ice cream. She curtly responded, “I already asked you,” in a tone that implied we had somehow made a mistake. This interaction felt unnecessarily rude and condescending, especially when we were simply trying to clarify a basic request. Her attitude left a lasting negative impression and significantly impacted our overall experience.
To make matters worse, the meal was extremely overpriced for what we received. The quality, service, and atmosphere did not come close to justifying the cost. As a result, I left the restaurant feeling frustrated, disappointed, and frankly, taken advantage of.
This was not the level of food or service I expected from a restaurant presenting itself as a reputable dining establishment. I do not intend to return, nor would I recommend it to others based on this experience.
I hope you take this feedback seriously and use it as an opportunity to review your food standards, pricing structure, and staff training. Guests deserve far better than what...
