We haven't been to Nanaimo before and saw this restaurant and decided to give it a try on a Saturday night .
There were some kids and a woman in the restaurant near the cash register at the back of the place, it appears they were eating their dinner at the family business. Maybe the owners kids and wife?
The restaurant was empty otherwise.
We were greeted by a woman and were seated right away. On the RIGHT side of the restaurant. We ordered butter chicken, which was not bad tasting - I've had better but I was hungry and gobbled most of it down. My Mom ordered chana masala with naan as they don't have bhaturas, oh well. There was a man who seemed to be answering the phone and hovering around the cash register the whole time we were there, we assumed he was the owner.
Although we were the only other patrons other than his own family at the time, he never once acknowledged us, smiled or made an effort to wave a hello.
The waitress was fine. She was fast and attentive and was smiling.
We noticed, after we had been seated, a caucasian couple were seated as well, on the LEFT side of the restaurant.
After our meal, we decided we would order some indian tea and dessert. But where we had been seated ( on the right side of the restaurant where the owner's noisy kids were eating) was very cold because of the draft from the door.
So, we asked if we could move to the other side of the restaurant where it wouldn't be as cold; the waitress suggested the far left corner booth.
We sat down in a booth where there were fabric napkins and pretty placements. The caucasian couple was sitting in the booth next to us.
Our tea and dessert arrived and as we were chatting, we noticed the owner came up to the causacion couple, smiled and asked how everything was. They said fine. He side-eyed us and walked right past us.
About 15 mins later, he came up to our table with a portable credit card machine and threw us a 4 word question, "Is the bill together?".
He didn't say thank you or goodbye.
Wow.
I paid the bill in cash and thought how this rude, unwelcoming and belligerent person was actually in business in this city.
My mom and I are Indian and being away from home for a few nights we craved a piece of home through some Indian cooking and perhaps a feeling of familiar people like the owners of this establishment.
It's so sad that people like this this treat their own with such behaviour, to think this guy actually seats Indians on one side of the restaurant with paper napkins and cutlery on an undressed table and Caucasions on the other side with fabric napkins and pretty plates and placemats.
Their food isn't the greatest so they really would do themselves a favour by learning some manners for people who support their livelihood.
Would...
Read moreI m giving 2 stars just because of the taste of the food, if the service was good I would have given 5 stars but the service was awful. We ordered Their special Manvirro’s Tandoori Platter which was one of the expensive dishes on their menu. According to the description it was supposed to have- Tandoori chicken, Tandoori prawn, mixed chicken kebob and tandoori lamb kebob. Ours came with no lamb, we talked to the manager, he was behaving so normal without any apologies, he said, they ran out of lamb that is why they gave us fish. We told him that, we specifically wanted to taste the lamb and we did not want fish. Then he gave us another lamb kebob separately. But my question is why they would not add the lamb in the platter before hand and add fish without asking the customer? And if they ran out of lamb how come they could give me later? Also disappointed about this, because, the exact same incident happened when my friends ordered this on the next day. The replaced the lamb with fish without asking them, same explanation and then gave them later, when they asked for it. Now my recommendation to them would be, if u don’t want to add lamb to that expensive platter $25.95, just change ur menu description, cut down the lamb, add fish. So cx is aware what they r ordering and what they...
Read moreMy friend and I love Indian food. We have tried most of the restaurants in Nanaimo and this was our last place. If I had an option i would have given this place half a star. We reached around 1pm, and the waitress informed us that there was a buffet. So we decided to go ahead with that. Thats when i realised it was probably not the best idea. The acccompaniment section was empty, spooms were mixed into each compartment honestly no attempt was made to even clean the mess. The tandoori chicken was tough and pretty and tasted weird. The butter chicken was alright, i have tasted way better ones. The maim problem here was the service. My friend had gone to refill her plate and the owner very rudely asked her to take a new plate. We are aware of such requirements but she could have said it in a way more polite way. The waitress also seemed too pushy, almost like in a hurry to finish her work. Finally, we were told we had 5 mins left to get what we wanted. Honestly even if i wanted some more curry, my spoilt mood refused.to make me budge. I would suggest any other restaurant in Nanaimo than this one. Food wasnt too great but the experience counts as well. I wont go here...
