Subway — Restaurant in Nanaimo

It's been ages since I've gone to Subway and received anything other than average service and average food.

Usually, you've got an immigrant unenthusiastically throwing together the ingredients you ask for while repeating the same questions over and over because they don't truly understand English and you end up with a poorly made sandwich, poorly wrapped and thrown down on the counter. And then the point of sale terminal asks for a tip.

This time was different however. I met, Jot, who spoke perfect English despite his obvious Indian heritage and was absolutely methodical and meticulous in the way he put together my sandwich. He put the sauce on first, as requested, followed by the bacon and meat which he placed perfectly to ensure that it covered the entire inside of my sub bun. He spread the cheese out perfectly, and then added the veggies in the exact order I asked, making them fit perfectly within the confines of the bun. He then used the knife to pack it all down and properly closed the sandwich before wrapping it tightly, ensuring that it wasn't a mess when I got home to eat it.

My daughter and I recently stopped by this Subway location for a quick meal, and we were pleased with the experience overall. The service was friendly and efficient, and our sandwiches were fresh and tasty. As expected with a fast food option, there wasn't much in terms of atmosphere or decor, but the restaurant was clean and well-maintained.

One thing that caught my attention was that they provided me with a compostable container for my salad, which I appreciate as an effort to use more sustainable packaging. However, I found it funny that the container ended up in the regular garbage, which seems counterproductive.

First of all, super clean and the food was fresh and the trays were full and clean. But in my book, it is the staff that made me come back. I came in on June 16th, Erik served me so nice , polite and fast. I have an allergy that isn’t common he was super helpful guiding me in which bread contained that ingredient, no judging just compassion. He was so memorable that I came back the next day (as we are travelling from Alberta) I was again impressed as I observed his co-worker Nikka, she’s fast, efficient, kind to the customer and super organized. I can only say good job to the owners for having excellent staff in place. To the Subway corporation, I can only hope that you see my review and see for yourself the gem of employees that Erik and Nikka are and look for ways to advance...
