As soon as you walk through the door, you are greeted by a kind and polite owner welcoming you. This is hands down the best place to buy fresh onigiri in the GTA. They have many onigiri flavours including seaweed salad, tofu, spam and egg, shiitake mushroom, kimchi, bonito, grilled salmon and smoked salmon so there is something for everyone. Sometimes they have specials like curry flavoured onigiris which are also wonderful. I have tried every flavour and while they are all delicious, the spicy tuna mayo is unlike anything I have tried in the past. For those that don’t like raw seafood, do not worry it is cooked tuna and it is definitely their star item (not too spicy either). The onigiris are affordable at $3-5. Eating 1-2 for lunch and 2-3 for dinner makes you feel satisfied. Remember to take a couple to go for your lunch tomorrow, their excellent packaging allows your onigiri to stay fresh even as leftovers. The imported sweet potato cheesecake is uniquely light and mildly sweetened, perfect for anyone that enjoys Asian desserts that are not sickly sweet, a must try. I wish they were open a bit later at least once a week so I could get there after work for dinner. Don’t leave newmarket without trying Oyatsu place.

What a hidden gem right in Newmarket! First time trying on Oyatsu Eats on Msin Street, Newmarket and the owner was so friendly! As soon as you walk through the door, you are greeted by a kind and polite owner welcoming you. He explained the different kind of onigiri thoroughly, he even showed us how to open each one (with their fancy wrapper that makes sure the seaweed stays crisp) and gave that to us to try (complimentary). He made this good eating experience into a great one! They have many onigiri (rice balls) flavours and the onigiris are affordable at $3-5. Eating 1-2 for lunch and 2-3 for dinner makes you feel satisfied. The yuzu cake (Japanese cake) is refreshing and delicious. The purin dessert is an absolute must try! It resembles what we (latinos) call Flan pudding. It is silky and creamy, which is one of my favourtie desserts in life. So yummy šŸ˜‹ The service was great and friendly. The decor is very relaxing. Don’t leave newmarket without trying Oyatsu place. We will definitely come back! Parking lot behind the community center is free and close by.

Came here Friday night during the Newmarket Frozen Festival. We were originally looking for a quick snack but decided to dine in to warm up—and we're so glad we did! We ordered three onigiri that were toddler-friendly (kani & tobiko, curry chicken, and tuna). To our surprise, our little one dug right in and almost ate a whole one! That’s always a great sign of delicious food. Everything was incredibly fresh—the crispy seaweed, soft rice, and flavorful fillings all stood out. It was so good that we had to get more to go, eventually trying every flavor available. Each onigiri was generously filled and perfectly seasoned. The owner, Thomas, kindly gave us a pudding to try, and it was a game-changer—so jiggly, smooth, and delicious. We’d honestly come back just for dessert. Out of all the flavors, our favorites were the curry chicken, shiitake mushroom, and tuna. They also have a rotating menu of flavors, so we can’t wait to try something new the next time we’re in the area. Don’t sleep on this onigiri spot—it’s a gem!

First time trying, been on the list for abit and finally had a chance. Wife and I went in with our baby in a stroller (important in a second), and wanted to try a few.

The gentleman owner was so welcoming, having been our first time there, he explained how the menu will vary slightly everyday, so not every item he lists is there. He also explained what some of the ingredients were, having never heard of some items. We tried the crab, and right away knew the rest were going to be awesome! Grabbed curry chicken, eel, tuna mayo, shiitake, salmon and another crab for later. They had a deal where you grab 3 and you get a free drink or miso, we did 1 of each, and 2 home made japanese cheesecakes.

Now each item, was truely amazing, we had them later in the day, the taste for each were great and so very filling! What made the gentleman owner just so awesome, he came running to help us with the stroller while exiting, even lifting to keep it fully balanced when stepping down. He had someone about to order but kindly told them he needed to help us and ran over!

We plan on visiting more, and just having that personal touch, has solidify Oyastu Eats to enter our top...
