About a thousand years ago some Vikings stumbled upon Newfoundland and “discovered” the Americas. Since then, with very few exceptions, there really haven’t been any exciting discoveries – Until I discovered Shahi! Shahi is a Roti place in Midtown Toronto run by a couple of geniuses who, despite having the obvious culinary skills to be running a chain of Michelin star restaurants around the world, have decided to grace midtown’s presence with their modest presence. I would say that the modesty makes the food taste better, but this is physically impossible since the food is already at maximum tastiness.
Shahi is like the Narnia of restaurants. You walk into a small and unassuming place, and all of the sudden – BAM – you’re in a different world. But better because, you know, no lions.
No one in the neighbourhood is sure where these people came from or how they managed to crack the secrets of food for mankind, but we are very, very thankful.

Read moreIf you love Indian food, visit this place! Super flavourful, good size portions. We ordered 3 roti (curry wrapped in a huge fresh made tortilla) and had way too much for 4 people. The butter chicken was excellent, great flavour, lots of chicken. The chicken korma was a bit spicy, very delicious, and the chicken tikka masala was very good as well. The breaded/fried cauliflower ghobi chilli was the spiciest thing we ordered - also very good but med-high heat so beware if you don't like spicy food. We had gulab jamun (like a timbit soaked in flavoured syrup) for dessert which were delicious. The mango lassies (smoothies) were good but way sweeter than others I've had. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a bit bare, but they've only been in business a few weeks so I feel like they're just getting started. We ordered takeout so it didn't matter to us. I definitely want to go back soon to try all the other things on their...
Read moreIt used to be a great place to eat. The portion was great and the food was tasty. Recently they increased the price and reduced the portion size. Roti used to fill the rectangular container and only one layer of roti would wrap the curry. Now, the roti would only fill 1/2 to 2/3 of the container. I would also find a couple layers of roti on the bottom instead of a single layer. As a result you would only get a small amount of actual curry compared to the past. It doesn't taste good anymore because you get less curry and too much roti. It's not a good deal anymore because their roti starts at 11 bucks. I get sometimes they have to increase price but reducing the portion size and deceiving customers by adding layers of the roti on the bottom is not really good. I hope they revert back to...
