Our experience at Red Chilli was nothing short of a disaster. We ordered the Mongolian beef and beans, which were supposed to come with garlic, but didn't. The beans tasted old and stale, like they had been sitting around forever before being served. It felt like they had been in exile, and someone finally decided to throw them on a plate. The beef was slimy and tasted awful, like it had been left out for days. The spicy chicken with spinach was equally terrible, as if whoever cooked it was in a bad mood and decided to take it out on the food.
The rice they served us looked like it had been scraped from the bottom of the pot—dry, scaly, and burnt. The spicy chicken with spinach was just as bad, clearly cooked by someone who didn’t care at all about what they were doing. It was far from authentic, despite what they might want you to believe.
When we spoke to the owner, Selena, about our concerns, she couldn’t have cared less. She rolled her eyes as if she was used to hearing complaints and just didn’t care. Her attitude was beyond dismissive—like she thought she was above everyone else.
For the record, this place used to be packed on a Saturday night, and now, it’s almost empty. If you look at the reviews, it’s clear that Selena has issues and is in denial about the problems here. She refuses to fix what’s broken and bring the restaurant back to its former glory.
I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. In fact, I’ll be filing a report with the health authorities because someone needs to hold this owner accountable. Running a restaurant means providing quality food and a decent dining experience—neither of which you’ll find at Red Chilli. Avoid this place at all costs.
There’s nothing authentic about this restaurant. In fact, it’s far from it. The decor is low-class and pungent, and the owner? Let’s just say they should be ashamed. The only redeeming factor was our server, who was polite and clearly just doing their job. I’ll be initiating a report with the health inspector because this place needs it. Avoid...
Read moreTerrible customer service. Not going to lie, the food was great, but not the customer service. For starters, we asked for straws as our cups had lipstick stains on them, and she said “no straws.” Which wasn’t a big deal, but that was just the start. We then asked for some boxes for our food, in which they brought a big box to mix everything, but we told them we need separate boxes, because obviously we don’t want to mix our food. She then comes back with the bill, which we couldn’t read, she laughed and said it was in Chinese. We then figured, they were charging for boxes and sauces, and we had to ask for the English version of the receipt, which is when we found that out, so we think she didn’t give us the English version for that purpose. At this point we still didn’t think it was a big deal, as our waitress didn’t speak good English. We finally got the correct receipt, and when we received it, we found that we were charged for soy sauce, and chilli garlic sauce, which is not mentioned anywhere in the menu, nor by the waitress. Then, she charged us for 4 takeout boxes. At this point we were ready to argue, but figured that it was probably their stupid policy, and we won’t be able to change it, so we figured we wouldn’t tip. As we’re signing the receipt, without asking she looks at my sister and tells her you need to tip at least 15 percent, in which my sister replies first of all, I don’t have to tip, that’s my choice, and secondly, you charged us for soy sauces and boxes. She then had a childish outburst in the middle of the restaurant, yelling “WHATT? NO TIP?” Which everyone else in the restaurant saw. Then, she continues yelling out loud that it’s their policy, and we told her she should let us know before charging for something, to which she walked away angrily. We kept the receipt in case she tries to pull something, but beware of the service of this place, specifically the short haired Asian lady who is a server. Not to mention, rice is also a separate charge...
Read moreI would discourage anyone from ordering from this establishment. We have been ordering for many years and was horrified at the type of behaviour Lily the owner exhibited. We ordered 4 dished and it came to $80. That a little high but then when it arrived they have changed the containers and only filled them half way. When we complained the young driver called the owner to see if he could do anything to at least adjust the price. I stood in amazement as Lily screamed and ranted at the driver. She told him if they don't want it just send it back but she isn't going to adjust anything. Horrible customer relations.worse even is how she continued to verbally abuse the poor young driver. When I spoke to her she also threatened that if we didn't pay in full that it was coming out of the drivers pay. Anyone reading this that works for employment standards needs to investigate these practices. This restaurant has always had poor customer service but the food was good...but I will never be ordering from their after the way the owner berated and abused the driver. This business may have done well but now it seems it has gone to their heads and they seem to think they can not only over charge for the quantity of food but they feel they can be abusive to employees just trying to make a decent pay chq. All I have to say is I have full faith in Karma and you will receive what you put out. To the poor driver, we live in a country that you have a right to treated with respect and maintain your dignity. Please find a new job where you not abused...
