NEW UPDATED REVIEW 5 star to 1 star
It’s with genuine regret that I’m changing my 5-star review to 1 star, but recent experiences have left me no choice. We have been loyal patrons since this restaurant opened nearly a year ago, dining here regularly and enthusiastically recommending it to others. Our relationship with this restaurant began deteriorating in July when we were served dosa made with clearly spoiled batter evident from taste. My mother immediately experienced stomach problems as a result. Rather than acknowledging the issue, the staff became defensive and argumentative. Despite this alarming incident, we chose to give them another chance, limiting our orders to chai given our history as regulars. However, the problems persisted. The chai quality became inconsistent, and any feedback we offered was met with defensiveness rather than a willingness to improve. We stopped visiting, then reluctantly returned one final time—a decision I now regret. The final incident was particularly egregious. With only one dine-in customer apart from us and a single delivery order in the restaurant, our single chai took 30 minutes to prepare. We repeatedly informed Aarti that we had a time-sensitive commitment, but our concerns were ignored neither did Aarti inform us that chai will take more than 30 min. When the chai finally arrived, it contained raw, uncooked ginger clear evidence it hadn’t been properly prepared. When we pointed this out, Aarti blamed us for requesting it quickly, despite the fact that we’ve received perfectly prepared chai in under 10 minutes during far busier periods. The deliberate delay felt retaliatory perhaps because we were now only ordering chai rather than full meals, including during Diwali. This same passive-aggressive behavior occurred months earlier when we raised concerns about food quality. The pattern is unmistakable.
As customers who previously spent $600-700 monthly here, and even after the spoiled food incident continued supporting the business with $150 monthly in chai orders (more than most regulars), we deserved basic respect and service. Instead, we received arguments, delays, and dismissiveness. I never expected such unprofessionalism and hostility from a restaurant toward loyal customers. I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant to anyone anymore.
OLD REVIEW One of the best street food places out here in GTA. I have tried a lot of their dishes like dahi puri, masala dosa, Dabang dosa, pav bhaji etc. Each and every dish I have tried tastes so good! Absolutely fresh and great hospitality. I am a regular at this...
Read moreThis was long pending review, after a long pending visit ! Refrained from visiting any Indian franchise after couple of experiences in early years. After failing to resist for long, we visited our favorite pav-bhaji franchise ‘Honest’ ! To our pleasant surprise, it lived to the original brand. We were served tea after a long tiring day. Confirmed with manager and it was hand-made and not machine ! It was followed by pav-bhaji, and since its a place to relish bhaji-pav it got to be what one should expect. But the USP is the Kattappa sandwich, which was ordered out of the blue, and it was unexpectedly delicious 🤤! Would go for Sandwiches and mocktail next time !
Update: Next visit after a month is more about trying Hakka Chinese, which is again a surprise by being at par with the Hakka restaurants! This time we had cocktails & mocktails like a fish ! Again recommended to try drinks with the food, we opted for recommendations by the restaurant. And yes if you are Bira fan, you will find it no where but...
Read moreHonest Indian Restaurant was...fine. The best thing I can say is that the portions were generous and the service was genuinely excellent. Our server was attentive and friendly, and the restaurant itself was clean and offered comfortable seating. However, the food was a bit of a letdown. We ordered a variety of dishes—Chinese-style noodles, Chaap, Channa Bhatura, and a Thali—hoping to sample the breadth of their menu. Unfortunately, everything tasted rather bland and underwhelming, with a surprisingly similar flavor profile despite the different cuisines represented. It felt like the sheer volume of options, spanning North Indian, Hakka, dosa, and street food, might have compromised the authenticity and depth of flavor in each dish. It's a shame, because the staff and atmosphere were great, but ultimately, the food didn't live up to our...
