Let me start by saying. This is a review that pains me to write. I had such high hopes for a restaurant with my name on it.
We showed up 3 days after it's opening, and somehow there had already been over 112 Five đ reviews...very questionable, especially since when we arrived at around 1pm...it was empty!
We sat down and ordered our usual Turkish dishes (the kids love). We got Lahmacun, Cheese Pide, and a beef doner sandwich. We figured it would give us a good idea of how good the food is, to try that sort of variety.
We really liked the decor, and vibe the place had, and were hopeful still at this point. Thinking this was our new regular place, so close to home!
After 25 mins we were getting a little ancy (especially being we were alone in there). Finally our food arrived! But wait...the lahmacun seemed a bit overdone, we picked up the 1st two pieces and the ones below were all black around the edges...very burnt! We unwrapped the sandwich to give that a stab...COLD! Meat was not even warm. How did we end up with 2 out of 3 dishes so drastically/poorly done and on oposite sides of the temperature spectrum. Literally inedible, so we told our kind waitress, she took them away apologetically.
That's when the cheese pide finally arrived..the taste was so poor my kids took a bite and said there was something wrong. We all tried it, and as a family who eats this dish often, we all decided it was time to leave. After 40 mins, we left without finishing a dish.
The kind waitress would not accept our money, but we did leave her a tip....it was not her fault at all.
Unfortunately our last visit to this Sultan Ahmet however...our worst food...
Read moreMy family and I came to dine in last night and we had a pretty good experience. The ambiance is there and itâs a beautiful restaurant. The highlight of our night was our service. Maria, you did a phenomenal job and we felt very much at ease with you. She helped us with all the questions we had and she had a good balance with checking in on us if everything is alright.
Now the reason for the 3 star
I ordered the mixed grill for one, my husband the döner plate and we had the döner meat on the side. The Adana was amazing and had great flavour. The chicken shish was also pretty good. The veal shish was ok, the meat was overcooked and burnt on the ends.
I personally like to get rice instead of fries with my meals, but the rice I got is not your typical sehriyeli pilav with orzo. Itâs more of a mixed vegetable rice, which was ok. Wouldnât change it though for the next visit.
As for dessert we got the Kunefe which took longer than we expected (Maria did give us a heads up about the amount of time, but we almost waited half an hour). The dessert itself was ok, weâve had much better. It wasnât as crispy on the outside and there was very little cheese in the middle.
Overall, I would say try this restaurant. Keep in mind it is on the higher end for prices. The portions and food are decent, but nothing spectacular. Iâve tried many Turkish restaurants in Canada and Europe (although the Turkish cuisine in Europe is truly outstanding compared to Canada) and this was not on par with most of the...
Read moreDisappointing food. Much better Turkish options in Oakville. We did takeout and so cannot comment on atmosphere or service, just the actual food: The sigara boregi was too dark, almost burnt and practically no filling. Couldnât eat. Haydari was average: lacking salt, not enough herbs but the worst part is that the yogurt was watery. They should use a proper thick yogurt. Lahmacun was the best of our order. Ate all of it, properly sliced, nice dough. Beef Iskender kebab was absolutely the worst we have ever had: a 1/2â thick layer of tomato paste (not sauce) - tomato paste that we removed with a spoon from one of the 2 portions ordered. Couldnât finish even one dish, through the second. No melted butter on top. Meat cut too chunky and lacking seasoning. A travesty. Tried to order kazandibi for dessert and was told they donât have it. I asked whether they donât have it that night or itâs never available and the person who took my order said that âwe have supply issues soâŠâ This is absolutely BS given that kazandibi requires milk, sugar, flour and cornstarch. Why lie??? Just say your menu is irrelevant and you donât make it instead of telling people that you have supply issues. If youâre a restaurant and you canât get milk and sugar, close shop. In closing: never going back. Waste of money, lying to customers and worse of all, inedible iskender and sigara boregi- an insult to...
