I was a walk-in for a small, but expensive, 2 dish takeout. Long wait, over 20 mins. There were only 2 tables of 2 & a few pick ups while I waited. Very disappointed with the food. I ordered beef lo-mein & sweet & sour chicken balls.
The order came in a brown paper bag inside a plastic bag with handles. When I got into my apt put the plastic bag on the kitchen floor then lifted the paper bag out only to have the entire bottom give way! Most of the beef lo mein was now in the bottom of the plastic bag! I salvaged what I could & cleaned the mess before we could sit down to dinner!
The lo mein noodles we're all stuck together in a big circle. Some weren't even coated in gravy? They we're so overcooked that when I tried to take a serving with tongs, they just broke off into short sticky strands.
Each piece of broccoli had stocks of at least 3" & one was still attached to the broccoli core! The rest of the ingredients, beef, onion, carrot, green peppers, were average. The chicken balls were greasy.
That was my first & definitely last time...
Read moreMy family and I have been going to this restaurant for years. We started going 30 years ago at the original location when they were across the street from Mostly Roses flower shop. Back then the food was great, good flavour and service and always served hot and prompt, what happened? I wonder if this was a family business then that then got sold to someone else? Does anyone know? The last few times I’ve been there the food was cold and the recipes seem to have changed because the food is quite bland. I use to love Pagoda restaurant on Wyandotte Road E but unfortunately they closed. Hopefully Ho Wah raises their standards and brings back the wonderful food, recipes and service that they were once known for. As far as Chinese food in East Windsor there’s not many places to choose from, however, I don’t mind the drive to the west side to get good food. Please go back to the original Wong tong soup recipe, the one that had flavour, not just hot water, egg rolls with a variety of ingredients, not just bean sprouts. What has happened...
Read moreI ordered a combo meal and I found the portions to be very small in comparison to other local Chinese takeout. Also, the fried items were all breading and very little chicken, and they were so over cooked they couldn't be pierced with a fork and just crumbled biting into them. Very dry chicken as well on the inside due to being over cooked. The rice was very dark in colour and tasted very burnt and almost like smoke. The price was a bit more than I normally spend for a combo meal at comparable places. I will say I liked that the meal came with wonton soup, which was the best part of my meal, although it was a rather small bowl. All in all, I won't be back. I decided to give this place a try as they were open for lunch whereas my normal places didn't open until later in the day. Such a shame. Was really hoping for a lunchtime chinese...
