I have always wanted to eat at IHOP and only recently had the chance to go. Unfortunately, it turns out this visit was not remotely worth the trip. Starting off wanting to wash my hands, I discovered one bathroom was out of soap, and another was a mess. Ok, likely bad timing, I thought. I let the guy know about the issues, again, no big deal, but he didnt seem to care. Noone adressed the issues for the duration we were there. Back at the table, the seat and tabletop were sticky. There were sticky drips on the syrop handle at the table. The server, who clearly doesn't give two damns, started by spilling my girlfriend's drink on the menu and table. No comment. Maybe whoops? No effort to clean up the spill. The server told my lady he might need her to remind him for the mayo she requested, and sure enough, when her fisherman's platter showed up, he needed that reminder. The fish was terrible, with the dramatically overcooked batter being soaked with oil. I mentioned I asked for eggs over medium a minute or so after getting scrambled, so he took the plate away. I thought that was a little weird. Was he going to reuse the scrambled eggs? He then brought back what might have been the same jerky-esque bacon, telling me he made a mistake and I shouldn't have gotten the hash browns that were originally on the plate. OK. Where did the hash browns go? Hey, mistakes can happen, but I've never seen a situation like this where the diner is not just told to keep the food. Again, was this food served to someone else or just scraped off the place into the trash? The server forgot to bring my pancakes. He apologized about the oversight and told me he'd be right back. Almost 10 minutes later, he returned with cold pancakes. My girlfriend pretty much summed up this unfortunate visit with the comment, "I feel I'm going to be sick later." Well, I got to check off a bucket list item and now never have to go back. Ever. Apparently, with the intention of getting returning customers, we were given a 15% off coupon for our next meal. It stayed on the table, and that was only partially because it was stuck to it. Kingston has some amazing breakfast / lunch places. Every single one is likely a better choice. Don't risk your time, money...
Read moreWent here with friends for brunch this morning for the first time. Honestly, I’m not too impressed with it. Sure, the food tasted okay enough, but took quite some time to come out, and we had come at the tail end of the brunch rush, so it really wasn’t all that crazy in there. When it did, i found the gravy for the biscuit lukewarm. I do like how they do their hash browns though, and the pancakes were not too shabby. My biggest issue is with the service we received, or really lack there of. Our server, Sam, was one of the most inattentive servers I’ve ever encountered in a restaurant. She approached our table first with little to no introduction, asked if we wanted coffees. Sure we did, but then the carafe ran out and we sat at our table for at least 20 minutes before she decided to come and check us and offer more, despite walking past our table numerous times with empty mugs. Our food took about 40 mins to come out as well (she didn’t bring it). Once we got it, not even one check-in from her to see if everything was okay for us. We finished our meals with some leftover, put the empty plates at the end of the table to signal we were finished, and you guessed it, we sat and sat for her to come and offer bills or a takeout container for anything left uneaten. We actually had to wave her down even though she continuously walked by our table seeing we were done. Once bills came, still no question on whether we enjoyed our meal, and no takeout container offered. I would understand all of this if they were slammed, but they certainly were not. The 4 of us were very friendly and polite as well, so not sure why we were basically ignored by her for most of our meal. If this is how poor service has gotten, then I’m better off ordering into my home. Not to mention the tip percentages on the machines. I’m generally a 20% gratuity person being an ex industry person, but this lady didn’t even deserve the 10% I left, if any at all. Do better, make more money for yourself. Crappy service=crappy...
Read moreDecided to try the new I Hop to support local business. Upon arrival had to wait to be seated, seemed to be some confusion about seating. Restaurant was not full. Taken to seats in far back corner under air vent. Had to ask for different table as it was extremely cold under vent. New table wasn't much better. Had to kerp voat on to eat. Service was very slow. Took at least 20 minutes to take our order and then took another 25 to get our food. Food was not warm when it arrived. Toasted sandwich was cold on top and soggy on bottom like it had sat for sometime once prepared. Hamburger bottom bun was so hard it could hardly be bitten. Lettuce on hamburger very soggy and slimmy. Pickle on burger also very slimmy. Servers not trained well. We asked for extra napkins and never received even though server walked by table few times. Noted that table beside us asked two servers for jam and never received. They had asked for ketchup and never received, we were able to share ours. This may be due to inexperience but the I Hop company should ensure proper training given. General restaurant appearance poor. Dirty dishes left on tables, some for entire time we were there, 1.5 hrs. Also don't like fact that when paying first thing you see is how much you want to tip. I know this is common practice. Would not recommend...
