The Golden Damrei Restaurant — Restaurant in Ontario

Friends suggested to check out this place because we like Cambodian and Thai cuisine and it is fantastic! It reminds me of some of those hidden gems in big cities. Unassuming store front with a nice sign, not a huge space, but enough to seat 12-16 people comfortably and most importantly, delicious food.

The owners are incredibly nice people and are really great if you're not sure what to order or are looking for suggestions. I have a background in culinary and worked in private and chain restaurants and this place has the best menu design I've ever seen. The bathrooms are also quite clean, which is usually an indicator of how well the owners and staff take care of the place.

Very disappointing experience. Dish arrived and did not look the same as the last time we had it there. I didn't eat more than two bites, food was not cooked well, like a gelatinous blob. My girlfriend ate some of hers, but did not enjoy it. We left the food on the table and went to pay. Asked for a discount because I did not eat my food. Was told that's the way they do it and they wouldn't give any discount. Very bad customer relations and overall poor atmosphere. Spring rolls were good, but it's pretty hard to mess up spring rolls. Obviously, would not go back. I don't normally like to write bad reviews but because I had to pay for their bad food I don't mind...

The flavours were great as was the service, but the place is pretty filthy which is a bit of a turn off. There was old urine all over the base of the toilet and piles of dirt on the floor around the furniture in the bathroom. The menus we're dirty and the walls, baseboards and floors look as though they haven't been cleaned in a long time so it was grimey. I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like if they don't clean their washroom properly. I was happy to see the debit machine was spotless though, which is usually overlooked.

It's just a shame to see so little pride taken in a place that actually has a kitchen...
