Fionn MacCool's — Restaurant in Orangeville

First time visiting today since pre-Covid, prior to that this was actually a favorite spot to visit by my wife and I as the fish and chips were pretty good. Today however was a much different story.

Fries were extremely salty, the fish a 2 piece meal was just barely cooked and soggy (and that was after I had asked for it to be lightly battered).

The quality of this has significantly dropped since last visit which is a major disappointment.

It at best gets 2 stars as the server was friendly otherwise a 1 star would have been awarded.

Update to this Manager from this location promptly followed up on this situation and asked for a second chance for the team to redeem the situation. My wife and I took them up on the offer yesterday and they didn’t disappoint. We ordered the same meal again and the meal was a major improvement. Waitress was awesome and clearly communicated the specifics of the order to the cooking staff. Fries and fish were on the money (this was what we knew Fion’s was capable of providing). Disappointing. Took my 2 sons here tonight for dinner. The portions are very small. The kids meals was not near enough for my 9 year old...let alone my 3 year old! The service was poor. Was left sitting for a while and waitress would walk away before we had a chance to ask for anything. The butter for mashed potatoes came out frozen, we ordered gravy which didnt come so we had to ask. We ordered desserts and the boys got an ice cream with their meals. The ice cream didnt come out with the desert and when it finally did come out they had the wrong toppings. The whip cream on the side of the chocolate cake was literally a watery pool. Our waitress was also eating while walking out of the kitchen a few times...very unprofessional. Was not impressed at all for our first time there. The food was good though aside from being small portion size. The steak wrap I had was more of an app size and for 25 bucks, not worth it....though...

I had a great time. The apps were great. Some wings, a spinach dip with tortilla chips, and drunken beer bread . The wings were average sized, and while described as Sriracha, they were at best Hot. The drunken beer bread was meh, but the cheese dip that came with stole the show. Real nummy. The tortilla chips n dip was good, but unremarkable. I had the flagship Bacon Burger with a house salad side, Fricken burger was awesome. "candy bacon" on the top, great burger, perfectly dressed and garnished for me. Previously, I've had everything lamb on the menu, and ALL are good, boxy, shank, everything. Had the Guiness beef Boxty, and it was awesome. The place has great owners, who really care, and competent serving staff. The place can be noisy, and the music a little loud, but upon request will adjust volume amicably.
