Located on the corner of Rideau Street and Sussex Drive in Ottawa, Metropolitain Brasserie Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience that transports you to the streets of Paris. On a scorching Monday evening, my companion and I had the pleasure of enjoying their inviting patio seating, which provided a perfect setting to unwind and indulge in their delectable cuisine.
Despite the restaurant being quite crowded, we were pleasantly surprised to find numerous empty seats available when we arrived at 7:30 PM. This allowed us to select a comfortable spot and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere while basking in the warm summer evening.
We opted for the fish and chips and the club sandwich from the menu, and both dishes surpassed our expectations. The fish and chips were impeccably prepared—crispy, golden-brown batter encased succulent fish that flaked apart with each bite. Accompanied by perfectly cooked fries and a tangy tartar sauce, this classic dish satisfied our cravings with its delightful flavors.
The club sandwich, another standout, was a harmonious blend of savory ingredients. Generously stacked with layers of tender roasted chicken, crispy bacon, fresh lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and creamy mayo, each bite delivered a symphony of textures and tastes. It was a delicious testament to the kitchen’s skill in creating satisfying and well-executed dishes.
The service at Metropolitain Brasserie Restaurant was commendable. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and efficient, ensuring that our dining experience was enjoyable from start to finish. They offered helpful recommendations and promptly attended to our needs, contributing to the overall positive impression of the restaurant.
One of the highlights of our evening was the ambiance. Sitting on the patio allowed us to soak up the lively atmosphere of Rideau Street and Sussex Drive. We enjoyed people-watching as passersby strolled along, adding a touch of urban charm to our dining experience. The blend of the bustling surroundings and the relaxed patio setting created a unique and enjoyable ambiance that enhanced our evening.

Read moreI just love this place. The décor beautifully replicates that of a classic Parisian bistro with the new-world bonus of spaciousness. The opulent bar, intricate mosaic tile and golden lighting all lend to the restaurant’s warm, convivial atmosphere. Even if you’re not hungry, this is still one of the loveliest places in Ottawa to enjoy a cocktail.
My husband and I were here last Saturday night for my birthday dinner. We booked table 100, located directly behind the host’s station on the banquette. This is my favourite spot in the whole restaurant because it provides an excellent view of both the bar and the front room. I find the visual details so lovely that I enjoy being able to see the place while I’m eating.
We began with a delicious cocktail. The menu is long and delightful so choosing only one is difficult. I finally settled on the French 75: gin, lemon juice and sparkling wine, elegant and tart. For an appetizer, I chose the farro and green olive salad. It was salty and savoury and more filling than I’d expected. They didn’t skimp on the toasted walnuts, so by the time I’d finished my salad, I wasn’t as hungry as I should have been for my main course, a rich bowl of cassoulet. When it arrived paired with a glass of Côtes du Rhône, my appetite revived. This is such a substantial meal that you can really only do it justice by coming to the table famished. Garlic and duck sausage, salted pork belly and white beans all simmering in an intricate tomato and red wine broth – heavenly, hearty peasant food. Since we had a show to catch, we weren’t able to stay for dessert and coffee, but the last time I ate at the Metropolitain, I asked if I could have my favourite dessert, an affogato, which wasn’t on their menu. They were happy to accommodate, going above and beyond to please the customer.
I’ve eaten in this elegant restaurant for many years and I’m pleased that its standards have remained so high, both in terms of the food and the wait staff. Service here is prompt, knowledgeable and friendly without being intrusive, a balance that many restaurants find surprisingly difficult to strike. It’s become one of my staple restaurants, so much so that I’m probably not trying new places as often as I should. Go for a drink, go for a meal, you’ll leave well fed...
Read moreI ordered a Caesar cocktail, three plates as well as oysters and shrimp on the side.
This was my first time ordering a Caesar so I may not be the greatest person to review it but here were my thoughts. I personally found it delicious, I felt it could perhaps have been mixed more thoroughly as there were some sips that tasted far stronger of Tabasco than others. Overall though I enjoyed the drink very much and will certainly be ordering it in the future.
The oysters were delicious and for the price of 1$ on buck a shuck Thursdays or 1.50$ everyday from 4-7pm they were a great experience. Hell after my first plate of them I was tempted to forgo a meal and simply fill up on these delicious and affordable priced oysters.
The shrimp was notably fresh and tasted great, I don’t know why they are called jumbo shrimp however they seemed to be normally sized.
My first plate escargot was mildly disappointing. It was served covered in melted cheese, the plate was rather drab looking with the escargot being hidden under the single coloured layer of cheese, a small garnish of parsley would have added a lot of colour. The flavour was similar to the appearance with an overpowering taste of cheese.
My second plate was stale tartare. It came with a Caesar salad, which while I found it odd to be served a side with an appetizer, was a welcome accompaniment as it tasted fresh and delicious and was one of the best Caesar salads I’ve ever had. The steak tartare was also delicious and had great presentation with a small egg yolk on top.
My final plate was the lobster ravioli. This place was without a doubt the star of the meal. The plate came adorned with three scallops, the only problem with the sea scallops was that there wasn’t more of them. They were perfectly cooked and were without a doubt the best scallops I ever had. Now on to the lobster ravioli. It was soft and creamy with a reddish sauce, they had great texture and a very creamy taste, a little too large to eat in one bite but that’s what knives are for.
Overall a great meal, I highly recommend the lobster ravioli and steak tartare and you can’t go wrong with...
