I am hurting as I remember how they made my guest feel this afternoon. If you want to support a positive space - Go elsewhere. Not here. For years, decades, this was one of my favorite dessert places. Today, there is no reason to return and every reason to find somewhere else to create memorable experiences of the good kind.
The cheesecake should have been discarded days ago - it had 8 mm of stale, gummy, chewy, shiny gel surrounding its entire surface area. But what do you do when somebody takes you out, pays for everything, presents it to you and you're having a deeply important, soleful and private discussion with them over cake and coffee? My loving guest choked it down so to not make a scene or embarrass me. She was then made to feel ashamed by the staff.
I brought an important guest here, hoping for a memorable treat. I regret visiting. What an embarrassment. The counter service was as expected but the product was old and stale. When the issue was later discretely brought to their attention, the manager Moe, he made a scene and accused the customer of not complaining sooner and made my guest embarrassed for politely choking down the stale cheesecake, after the server admitted that she should have taken it out of the display yesterday.
I had not asked for a refund nor replacement, we've just had a heavy discussion and we didn't want a scene. The server offered another slice to go but Moe behaved rudely, caused a scene in front of my guest and even put the blame on my guest saying "well, she ate it". When I indicated how the poor treatment did not encourage me to ever return again, he looked pleased, smiled and said that is fine.
How would you feel if you were in my place, or in the place of my guest? I encourage you to give your business to a more deserving establishment.
I have learned that if you are looking to treat somebody to a nice, memorable experience, this is no longer the place. This was one of my favorite places in the 90s when I came often with my family, and over the last 20+ years, but it is a horrible embarrassment now. There are so many places in Ottawa that value their customers and take better care of their patrons and provide the right kind of memorable experiences. I'll not be...

The last time I ate at this cafe, the pink velvet cake I ordered was stale. To add to that, I had a horrible experience this past week ordering a cake from them for a friend.
First of all, the website clearly stated that they offered delivery. Turns out, their website was wrong and they stopped the service. However, that wasn’t the end of the world because it wasn’t a big deal to go pick it up.
I confirmed with them how to order online for a specific pickup date, and I ordered as instructed. I never received an order confirmation via email, but I did have a charge on my credit card.
The whole week, I was waiting for some kind of confirmation but wasn’t contacted at all, despite the order obviously going through and my card being charged. Finally, on Friday morning (the day I needed to pick it up in the evening), I sent them an online message to check whether my order would be ready. I received a very curt response to call the shop and no offer to check in on the order.
When I called the shop, the person who picked up said he had no access to the system to confirm online orders, so I’m not sure why I was told to call. It turned out that they didn’t even have my order at all. The person I spoke to said they happened to have one of the cake I ordered on hand, and to bring in my order confirmation number, which I never received. I ended up having to send my friend—who was picking up the cake—a screenshot of my credit card charge just to get the cake.
In the end, it wasn’t even the right cake. I paid for a cake, they claimed they didn’t received the order, and then I ended up with the wrong cake.
The person I spoke to on the phone was very kind and did his best, but there are clearly issues with their system and whoever is in charge of online customer service.
Don’t bother with this place. It was amazing a few years ago, but it’s really...
Read moreProbably the worst cafe I've ever been to in Ottawa. The staff does not even wear masks or gloves serving food and coffee with the growing pandemic. Keep in mind they do not even have signs of their cakes, so you do not know what ANY of the cakes are, so you have to ask, and the staff aren't even enthusiastic about their cakes... they seem annoyed when you ask them about each cake and what it is, if you are going to be annoyed then have the decency to put signs of the cakes, it makes it easier for the customers and saves the staff time from standing there and saying the name of every single cake there is.
Now onto my experience, POV: You walk in to try their dessert, the staff is extremely rude and is not welcoming. Overpriced for ONE slice of cake, it was $10.23, I'm sorry but I can go to Costco and get a larger cake for $10 and it tastes even better than the cake I got here. I sit down and start studying on my laptop, this old man comes up to me and says "I'm only going to give you 30 minutes on the laptop, we have a sign that says no computers after 55 pm" Keep in mind the cafe was more than half empty at this time and they went up to me and said this to me before I even had the chance to try the cake. MAKE A BIGGER SIGN IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO SEE IT. I cannot stress this enough, what is the point of having a cafe if you're going to rush people? The staff needs more customer service skills. Also, why is the no laptop after 5 pm even a rule? This is absurd. And only 30 minutes? You are literally kicking me out after 30 minutes when the cafe is half empty? I am honestly surprised people even come to this cafe. You can offer to pay me and I will still refuse to come to this cafe ever again. This sucks for them because I love spending time in cafes and supporting them, but I will never come back...
